Pre-race routine:

Well I got up at the butt-crack of dawn and then my most wonderful hubby made me some Almond Waffles with peanut butter. I had my coffee can't drive with out having my coffee and Oh my gosh it was dark and foggy out there. Then drove the 2 hrs to the race site.
Event warmup:

Met up with Tam..she is just the nicest person ever. We walked around some and then went down to check out the water
Swim
  • 28m 21s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was good and a PR for me. I was worried because I have not been swimming as much as I should but I was really pleased with it. I started a little more to the front and did hold my own line. Swam pretty good sight wise...well except for the part where I swam into the swim area marker. Dang, those things are hard :)
What would you do differently?:

Not run into the bouy thing :0 Other than that not anything
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

Decided to wear my Team bike top, and that took a minute to put on. But I was glad I did. Wetsuit came off ok
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 31m 21s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I like this course alot...even the hill (yes Tam I said even the hill :) ) It was well marked and well guarded by the Sherrif and OHP. And I had a really intersting climibing motivation. As we got to a big hill this guy that was passing me commented on the dead skunk in the road and how smelly it was. He said he used it as motivation to get up the hill so we couldn't smell it.
What would you do differently?:

Not anything
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Running with bike: Ha! I was runing on the sidewalk in my bike shoes and litterally dragging my bike along. David, thanks for not laughing. I couldn't get to to go where I wanted it to
What would you do differently?:

Other than the running with bike thing nothing
Run
  • 1h 22m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not do well on the run. Had a hard time staying running. Don't know why. Gotta get it under control. But on the plus side... I saw alot of my Team running and got lots of High 5's and I didn't drop dead :) And the best thing...Tam (tnickerson) waited for me to finish even though she had a great race of her own. Thanks Tam, you get my best person award.
What would you do differently?:

Run more....both in the race and maybe more miles before. So I don't fall apart on the run in the actual race
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a few minutes with Tam, saw a few Team mates. Then Tam helped me get my stuff to the car....I swear i take too much stuff but I need all of it. Then drove home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The run...gotta get a handle on it on race day.

Event comments:

Another good one from HFP. Great support and nice places to race.

OMG, a 1:44 swim!  WOW!  You did great out there yesterday.  Glad I wasn't in the Olympic distance, cause you would have wooped my butt!

Guess I did do that hill, because I remember the skunk.  I passed it twice.  Wasn't so bad going out, but coming back, I had to hold my breath until I was past it.

Way to go out there!  You ROCK!

heheheh you have to be more specific. I think I counted 3 or 4 dead skunks out there!

Nice race report! That hill was crazy, I was going up it at about 6mph and my quads were on fire. I'm glad we had a lot of miles left on the bike afterwards because I sure as heck didn't want to run at that point...

Congrats Chris.

I didn't see the yellow Javelin.. are you still racing it

I raced my first Oly yesterday. The hill was brutal with a capital B...

Glad you did so well and nice report. "See" you in East Fork?

Cheers,

Yes, I am still racing the Yellow javelin. You must have been too far ahead to see me. I am prob. going to race East Fork. I don't know which race yet but I'll prob. do the Intl (oly) distance. Hope to see you there.

Chris
