I'm doing Seafair as my very first Triathlon. Is anyone else in this position? Every female that I meet is doing Danskin which is worrying me as far as the lack of beginners doing Seafair. Is Seafair more intense? I don't have much choice now, I'm doing this, but it would great to know of others who are doing Seafair, especially those who are beginners. The nerves are really starting to kick in now with less than two weeks away. I've swam in Andrews Bay, run around Seward Park and biked the course and I'm trying to feel ready, but it's pretty hard.

Hey welcome! Don't worry about it! If you are riding, swimming OW, and running around Seward Park, you should be great. This will only be my third tri! The cool thing for you is that you will be getting a PR regardless!

A lot of people will be at Andrews this Saturday at 10:00 a.m., so you should come too if interested!

There were lots of Seafair's at Seward last night!  I mean TONS. It was like swimming in a wave. I think they are going again tonight.

I have an OW Clinic at Madrona park at 9:15 (through Mary Meyer) then I plan on biking Lake Wa Blvd for some practice. I'll probably run around Seward after that then picnic there a bit. Maybe I'll see ya there!

The waves at St Andrews bay were as I've never seen them before! Made for a great workout though. Did two loops of the bouy and after that I was spent! LOL

They've cut all the milfoil away too. Thought you'd be pleased to know that

The Seafair distance and course is perfect for your first race. Don't worry it will be loads of fun.

Does anyone know how the running course works? I know it's the upper and lower loop of Seward, but do you start by going up and finish flat or do you finish by coming down the hill? Just curious. I have an idea of how the biking and swimming will be, but not really sure of the run (or in my case walk/jog).

It might be the same as the Pumpkin Push I did.  You run around the park to the East side of it, where there's a hill to the top of the park, you run around the upper loop and back down the hill and on towards the finish. Or it could go the other way around, but running around the park with the hill and loop included is 3.1 miles

You run flat first almost all the way around the park going clockwise, then when you are about a bit more than a 1/2 of the mile from the finish, you go up a relatively steep and annoying hill that lasts for about a quarter of a mile and then you turn around and come right back down it, then run flat for about an 1/8 of a mile to the finish. Its a service road that you dont really notice ever when you just run around the park.
The first time I did the race, I didnt know about the hill so that really sucked but now I know to expect it. Its still hard though and a lot of people walk it. That being said, its still a pretty easy and straight forward course.
Im doing the race! Its one of my favorite local tri's and I have missed the past 2 years so Im excited to be back. I think its a great "first" tri because of the relative ease of the course.
There are a few more hardcore people there than Danskin, but the only time I noticed it was in the swim start. Just stay near the back and it will be fine!

Yeah!!! Didn't see any of ya at the registration, but I was there around 1p anyway. Can't wait, I've been takin' it easy since 5 mile lake, so it's good to get back in the groove again! SeaFair this week, Fed Escape next week. Look for the black pirate jersey this race, I'm switching it up a little, now wearing a black short sleeve pirate jersey for this race, and probably fed escape. See ya in the morning, I'm in the second wave, #826...

I hit the registration at 0900 in order to beat the crowds.  Parking still sucked, and they had me reg'd as an elite.  I opted to change to AG instead.  Leaving shore at 7:10, wearing black trisuit with bright blue Nike tank over it for the bike and run.  Holler if you see me!

Edit--Lynne, I saw your fat salmon swim wave in the water as I was crossing I-90!  Hope you got my mental HOWDY!

Leslie

HAHAHA? Those would have been the 3.2 milers. The people in the orange caps? We started MUCH further up.

I could feel a mental HOWDY when I swam. So thank you

I am mad at my wetsuit. I feel water sloshing in the shoulder area with just about every swim. Going in my camo jammers. Not sure about a top.

Have a fun everybody!

What a great day to race!  It was great meeting Rachel, at last, and seeing Luke and others.  Hope everyone had a good race.  Has anyone seen official results?  My watch didn't start for the swim, unfortunately, so I have no idea how that went!  I am guessing I did "ok" in it!

How'd everyone do?  I did a RR but the numbers aren't official yet.

I saw Luke too! In his new shirt! Such an easy way to spot people. LOL.

Hopefully I'll get to meet Rachel next Sunday

Did anyone else see the young kid? He looked no older than 10 or 11 but he did the FULL Tri course!  I was so impressed!

There is a great PI article -- a four year old did the kids tri, and TWO blind people did the race! Wow!!!

This was a lot more competitive than I have seen thus far, but so well organized. I felt sluggish and slow, but I went straight out and bought some aero bars!!! Yay!

I didn't see the PI article.  Results are at racecenter.com, though.  I did ok.  A friend of mine got third in the 30-34 age group! She's fast!  I was *ahem* 29th in my AG.  Wish they had Athenas!!!

I was 70 something in my age group. I didn't have my Garmin, and ran SO SLOW~! I don't know why I am such a terrible biker...I went faster at Five Mile Lake! Oh, well, it's my first season.

You did GREAT!
