Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon

I've done it the past 2 years - this being my 3rd year.

This was my first half marathon ever, nursed across the finish line by Doug (Captantony). 

Since then, I find myself keep registering for this event out of nostalgia and a sense of duty.  Plus, it keeps me focused during the summer and is a nice carrot to hold out for my 5 year old son to behave during the summer "Patrick!  Put your brother down or we're NOT going to Virginia Beach!"  (or as he calls it Virgingia Beach)

It is a really fun race.  I highly recommend it.

(psst : plus there are TONS of walkers so no matter how slow you run - you won't come in last!)

Not my favorite half. Usually too hot and not enough water stops.  It looks like it might be better with the new course.

I know! I had originally thought it was the weekend of my Oly, so I didn't think about it. But now it's the weekend BEFORE my Oly, which, it being my first Oly, is not a good idea to go and blow my legs out the weekend prior. Next year...when I can run a half-mary and still do an Oly the following weekend...

Isn't this over the 3 day holiday?  Seems like it would be crazy down there.

I'll be back for the Shamrock, had fun last year.

I did both last year (RnR and Patriot Half) I ran RnR easy with a friend and saved my legs for Patriot.

This race is lot's of fun, but certainly not a PR race given the heat. I looked at the new course and personally I like the old one better. Oh well.

Now on to the fun! Shannon (thegoddess) and I would love to host a BT get together at our house in Chesapeake (about 25 minutes from the VA Beach ocean front). The question is would people rather get together pre-race on Saturday afternoon for a BBQ with water and some beer; or post race on Sunday for a BBQ with water and more beer. Let us know your preference - we are open to either. All BTers, friends, and kids are welcome!

personally, I'd vote for Sunday night because then I'm not worrying about what I eat and can instead enjoy some good BBQ and not be worrying about how it affects me in the early a.m.

plus, I'm skipping the B-52s concert. 

but either Saturday or Sunday, just looking forward to hanging out with you guys again.

considering I"m coming solo, I"d love to do both!  anyone want to grab some grub the night before? I haven't been to VA beach since I was 3, so I have no clue how to get around. I"m staying at the Founders Inn...the closest place I could get! 

I'm sure we can arrange a pre race dinner at one of the local pasta places. As it gets closer we'll see who wants to meet up.

Doug, I love the idea of you and Shannon having people over. I vote for post race BBQ and beer.

That's totally fine - it will be a nice little vacay before the Oly. We can talk deets a little later

Shannon (thegoddess) and I would like to invite all BTers, family & kids of BTers, friends of BTers, and others this excludes to a Post-RNR-Barbecue at our house in Chesapeake.  We live about 30 minutes from the VB Oceanfront.  We will provide the food, beer, water, hot tub for the tired legs, and games for the kids.  You provide the tired legs and appetite.  The festivities will start around Noon on Sunday and will end when the last person leaves. 

If you are interested in joining us, send me a PM and I will give you our address and cell phone information.  I would rather not post that information in a public forum.

As for Saturday night, let us know if there will be a pre-race carbo load dinner.  Depending on the baby-sitter schedule, we may try to make it out for that as well.
