Here is a story about a man that rides in our group rides.  It's awful.  I can't believe people.  He is the nicest guy in the world.

That doesn't sound very random. That sounds targeted.

Keep an eye on youtube. This is the sort of thing some idiot teenagers are doing now to get attention there. They do crap like this, film it, and post it for laughs.

Wow, that's a awful incident.

As I think others have reported, I was slapped on my bike by kids in a passing car, they drove around the block and tried it a second time but I was sorta on to 'em by then fortunately and swerved (nearly sent me sailing off the road).  Stoopid me was soo pissed I  jumped off my bike and screamed at 'em to come back (duh, like 1 against 4, testosterone can make ya crazy me thinks).

Maybe Glock will sponsor you or send you some cycling shirts! I'm guessing somebody is not going to mess with you if you have "glock" printed in plain view!

These kids just need to be slapped around and then thrown in prison.  This is far from a teenage prank but I can see their parents now if they are caught saying they are just kids and don't know any better.  I say, bull, I was a kid once and knew exactly what I as doing.

What I don't get about the story is they say hopefully the driver will turn in the person.  Wouldn' the driver be an accessory to the crime since he did drive the freakin' car?

Absolutely terrible! (and I am glad he is going to be okay)

I am so thankful I am able to ride the Suncoast Trail.

I hate riding next to the drivers in this state.

Great idea, I'll send them an email!

I'm thinking about getting a police jersey. Of course I'll look like a schmuck when a real cop pulls up next to me and asks me what precinct I'm with but maybe people won't try to plow me over. On second hand, this might entice them more.

Or maybe humor would deter them.  Like in large block letters on my back, "yeah, I know my shorts are tight".

That's so terrible. I'm glad he didn't get more than a bruise from it. I'm pretty sure they should catch this kid and let the guy beat him to death with a baseball bat.

Ok, maybe a little to extreme.

The adrenaline would have been going so much at that time... you probably would have taken them. I would have at least tried... Stuff like this gets me so riled up.

It does frighten me that by simply getting on a bike some people no longer see us as someone, but rather someTHING.  These teenagers treated this guy like a mailbox, and it just amazes me that some people cannot make the connection that cyclist=human being.

Sorry to hijack, but I am curious if any women have ever been targeted. I've gotten the car honks and the stupid teenaged boys yelling at me, but I've never been touched or had anything thrown at me, etc. I've always assumed its because I'm a woman and most of the time it's boys or men that do things like this to other men (not always but seems to be the trend).

Any girls get assaulted while riding?

Sponsorship from GLOCK!? How awesome would THAT be!? They already sponsor a race car. How badass would you look in T1 while everybody else is getting on their 6K Scott Plasma and there 9K Cervelo and you're getting on your GLOCK made out of the polymer they use for the frame? I'b be all over that in a heartbeat.

I rode on closed-to-traffic paths in Tampa (about 45mins from location of this assault with a deadly weapon). I will NOT ride in traffic, unless I can ride the sidewalks or roads near my home and only while en route to the closed-to-traffic paths. Flatwoods, Suncoast, Gandy Friendship - those are the routes to take.

I hate reading these threads because it reinforces how dangerous our roads can be. But I appreciate these threads because it reinforces how dangerous our roads can be.

But it really is sad to see evidence of how low humans can act.

I feel like this season, so far, has been littered with terrible stories like this. It is really dissapointing that some people (not all) take advantage of the vulnerability (sp) of cyclists and treat them as objects as opposed to humans. I feel like we need to start some sort of campaign to raise awareness of cyclists and encourage drivers to not be a@@h*&#@s and just be considerate.
