Overall Rank = 41/180
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/26
Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5:30 AM. Ate bowl of oatmeal and had a cup of coffee while surfing the web. Left the house around 6:15 AM.
Event warmup:

Meet up with sjlschafer at packet pick up. Found two spots in the transition area together. After setting up, we took a walk to the water to check on temperature, etc. Mild stretching while waiting to use the restrooms.
Swim
  • 18m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

There were waves coming from the right on the way out. I would guess they were about 1 foot. With the waves and the general chaos during the start, I have to say the first 100-200 yards were the slowest. There were moments going out to the first bouy I needed to breastroke. Either due to congestion or waves. It took me some time to find my space. After the turnaround, I was able to catch a few people. I felt much stronger coming in than going out.
What would you do differently?:

OWS. This was the first one of the year. The first race is probably not the time to get in the open water for the first time.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition. In and out pretty quick. I had the race belt, sunglasses, and shirt on pretty quick. Helmet was on and then took off out of the transiton. I almost mounted my bike too soon. I was looking at the wrong yellow line. Wheewww!
What would you do differently?:

Compression t-shirts are hard to put on when you are wet. I was only able to get my shirt on to my shoulders. I was able to put the rest of it on during the first mile of the ride.
Bike
  • 36m 3s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.31 mile/hr
Comments:

There was a little breeze on your back on the way out. You noticed it after the turnaround.

Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I almost took a spill getting by first foot out of the bike shoes. Took my head off the road and looked down. NEVER AGAIN WILL I DO THAT. LOL.
Good rack and sat down to put on shoes. No issues getting socks on and shoes tied. Took off out of T2 for the run.
Run
  • 23m 44s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

There was not a sign or indicator for the first mile. I missed it last year too. I don't think there is one. lol. I will have to ask sjschafer.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace sooner. Three miles is quick. No need to save anything for later. I could have ran probably 20 sec/mile quicker.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate an orange and a banana while taking to sjlschafer's cheering section, wife, boys, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

OWS.

Good race. I did not see any mile markers at all on the run.
