Comments: This was less than a week after the Buffalo Sprints Half-Ironman, and so I had done very little. This was just some 4th of July fun. I could tell my legs were sluggish, and I actually got beat by two women for the first time in this race. Each mile got about 10 secs slower than the previous. Totally for fun, and was thrilled to have my Mom and Dad out there doing it too. They did the walk, though they both ran a couple of downhills and ran the final stretch--they had fun. It was funny hearing them talk about picking off this person in their age group, or beating this one...totally solidified where I got my competitive edge! What would you do differently?: Nothing--totally for fun. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed water, chit chatted with friends, waited to cheer parents to the finish. They screwed up times a little (no chip time) and didn't have mine, so I didn't get my hardware--but that is truly okay. I know where I placed. What limited your ability to perform faster: umm, doing a half-ironman 5 days prior... Event comments: The Ft. Hood 5K series is fun, and they are talking about a sprint tri in Sept. Just got up, got the folks up, loaded the car and headed to Ft. Hood. We picked up our packets, pinned on our numbers, and waited to start. I used the potty once and ate an Espresso GU.
I ran about 400m just to loosen up.
