Pre-race routine:

Dropped the kids off at the day care at the YMCA and headed outside down to the beach. I set up my transition area and chatted for a bit. This is a super low key, informal event so no body marking or chip pickup.
Event warmup:

Swam about 100 yards and waited for the ready, set go!
Swim
  • 16m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I decided to skip the wetsuit. The water was really warm and I have a full suit. I am sure I would have been faster with it on but I wanted to see the difference in my time from my tri in June with it on. The time's were very similar. Hmm. My sighting was not great but not horrible either. Before the start someone said something about jelly fish so I was a bit paranoid every time I saw something the least bit similar to a jelly. Yikes, the last thing I need is to be stung! I think everyone made it through w/o any stings!
What would you do differently?:

Sight better, learn to draft. It was a good swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I forgot a bucket to wash off my feet so, I had sandy feet for the run. Oh well, not too much of a big deal. My socks went on no problem and slipped into my shoes. Grabbed my visor and sunglasses and a quick drink of water and off I went!
What would you do differently?:

Try running without socks. I'd love to skip this part.
Run
  • 30m
  • 3 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

Fast run for me!! I had a girl in front of me and my goal was not to let her pull away from me. I knew I couldn't pass her but I didn't want her to drop me either. This worked until the last half or so of the run. I really don't know if she sped up or if I slowed down or both! Oh well. I was really thirsty the last half mile but didn't have anything with me. I should have either brought my water with me or had more in T1.

What would you do differently?:

Not much. For me this was a great run. I just need to get outside and run more and not rely on the treadmill as my main source of training.
Post race
Warm down:

Chugged the rest of my water and chatted some more.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a slow runner!!!

Event comments:

All that aside, at least I could get out there tonight and participate in the race. Throughout the run I was thinking about Christine (Lucy) and praying for her family. May God bless them and Christine, you have touched many people and you will be missed!!!
