Pre-race routine:

Note: I actually ran this at 7:30 pm CST on Thursday, 7/17.

Went to BodyPump class and then drove to a nearby path that runs along the Mississippi
Event warmup:

Plenty warm from the class, so I just started running.
Run
  • 34m 29s
  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

This was not impressive from a performance standpoint, but that wasn't really the point. I just ran and tried to think about Christine's family and what a good person she was. I never met Christine, but from all accounts she was a gem of a person and will be very missed. It was a sunny, pretty evening and I just tried to enjoy and appreciate it.

For the last .15 mile, I ran as hard as my short chunky legs could. I actually saw 8:56/mile on the Garmin at one point, which is flying for me. I found this last minute to be extremely unpleasant, but yet realized I was lucky to be able to be out there doing it. When the watch said 3.1 miles, I started walking and when I looked down at the sidewalk, there was a :) spray painted right below my feet. Cool.
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for 5 minutes or so and then headed home to be with the family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This is a big N/A for this one.

Event comments:

Rest in peace, Christine.
