  • 750 yards
  • 03m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

"No one wins a triathlon at the swim" was the way I looked at it this time. I was a little intimidated at first by the swim at the end of the race when I was tired but in the end I think it was a fun experience and it made you "think" ahead and plan accordingly.
What would you do differently?:

I will work on my swim and try to get faster and learn how to draft in the water. I need to do more open water swimming.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Broke the cardinal rule of transition...don't try something new on race day!!! I tried clipping my shoes into the pedals and it was a disaster, I couldn't get my feet in and I knocked someone off their bike. I lost atleast 2 or more minutes stopping to unclip my pedals and put them on.
What would you do differently?:

I will not do anything that I haven't practiced on race day again.
Bike
  • 42m 54s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.38 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a good course to ride and although the ride was mostly dry we did get a little bit of rain, just enough to get the roads slick if you hit a paint line. Fortunately it did not last long.
What would you do differently?:

Have a better transition and hammer a little hard on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I need a transition clinic.
What would you do differently?:

Go to a transition clinic
Run
  • 36m 32s
  • 2.7 miles
  • 13m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I used the run to catch my recover from the first swim and saved my legs for the bike (my strong event)
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my run by doing interval training and running a little harder on my long days.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and not training hard enough or the right way. I have to figure out how to properly train for triathlons and do it right, but this year is my first year so I expected this to be a learning year.

I like this race, like the swim at the end, cools me off from the second run. Only problem this year was that my race packet did not have any of the course information. No big deal because I had run it last year. Kept having all these guys, talking about the iron mans  they had done ask me where you started the run, second swim etc. Me, the biggest fattest guy out there! Must not have just been my race packet missing the course descriptions.

lol, yeah I know what you mean, I was listening to all these IM and 1/2 IM guys and felt like, "crap, what did I get myself into" but I agree with you I liked this race and will do it again next year. Nice to know that there is another big guy in Rowan County doing these things too, insanity likes company, lol. which tri are you going to be in next?

Scott did this one a few years ago...I remember him saying the water was gross and bike was hilly! You did great though...it's a tough one!!
