Overcast
Total Time = 1h 40m 27s
Overall Rank = 230/643
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 31/42
Pre-race routine:

Not good. We were staying in a hotel. The baby was up and down all night so I got a lousy nights sleep. I woke up late. 6:45 for an 8am start. Didn't have time for a good breakfast. Had half a cliff bar and a banana
Event warmup:

Rode 3 miles to the event from our hotel. Then did about 250yards in the lake a few minutes before the Half people started.
Swim
  • 08m 45s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

I loved this swim. I'm pissed at myself for underestimating myself. I finished 15 out of 42 in my age group. I Let the other swimmers go, but th conditions really got to many of the swimmers. I spent a lot of time going around people. If I had started further up in the pack I think I would have had a faster swim. I'm not fast by any means, but the nasty conditions give me a great advantage since I am very comfortable with sloppy water. I did much better on sighting this time.
What would you do differently?:

Start front or mid pack instead of back.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

A minute faster then last time. It was a shorter distance from the finish of the swim to the actual transition area. There were wet suit puller offers. That was nice.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster?
Bike
  • 57m 15s
  • 18 miles
  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Went out to fast on the first half, suffered with the head wind on the return trip.
What would you do differently?:

Go easier during the first half.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

I felt good. About the same distance as High Cliff. I knocked a minute off of that race's T2, I improved, thats what is important.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 30m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

A PR for a 5k even as a stand alone. I was really happy with that. I felt that at my last race I held to much in reserve. This time I might have pushed it a little hard. I had to stop and walk a couple times, but I had great motivation. One of my buddies was 100 feet in front of me from the start, it took me till well after the turn around, bu I caught him. I got passed by another friend, tried to stay on his heals, but he sped up and I blew up.
What would you do differently?:

Not try to keep up with Alan. Poor more water on myself earlier.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training.

Event comments:

This was a great race. I can't wait to return next year.

Nice race!!! You kicked my butt in the swim....I was one of those people struggling with the conditions. Maybe you should teach me how to swim with the chop lol! Good job knocking a minute off T1 time too!
