Age Group Rank = 38/51
Pre-race routine:

up at 3:45 PBJ on whole wheat, coffee, bio break - check the weather put bike on car and drive up, go tthere at
Event warmup:

none - walked around - set up transition - another bio break , got body marked, strolled down to the beach for a peek.
Swim
  • 08m 51s
  • 766 yards
  • 01m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

1st time at this race - beach start in waves - run down beach into lake - water was cold for first 30 secs or so... it was gorgeous though.. very very clear would be a great place to practice OWS..., could see the bottom even in the deepest part of the swim. Was a tad concerned since shoulder has been so hinky lately - when sighting there were less and less yellow caps (wave 7) in front of me, Turning the last bouys - going with the waves was really fun and fast, passed a few people who decided to run/wade when it got waist deep, I swam until hand hit the bottom.
What would you do differently?:

start more to the front of the wave
Transition 1
  • 04m 10s
Comments:

hard to say- it was a long run into T1, I'd guess 200 yards or so. Wetsuit was alread down to waist. I wore a trisuit for the first time to speed up T1 but I guess it didn't help, neither did not wearing socks... or maybe I would have been slower if I had used my normal configuration
What would you do differently?:

maybe forgo the gloves for such a short race?
Bike
  • 41m 13s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 19.00 mile/hr
Comments:

felt pretty good - computer on bike said 13.55 miles with 19.3 avg speed. not what they have but.....

was mostly on Big gear cranking.. felt good... passed a bunch of people, got passed by some REALLY fast buzz bombs with discs - all in all a nice course but keeping right was uh, a challenge for many people

some light rain/mist fell

This was fastest ever in a race
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder?

not drink 24 oz of gatorade when 15 probably would have sufficed, belly was icky for the run
Transition 2
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

seemed fine - racked bike, changed shoes - helmet off visor on
Run
  • 42m 37s
  • 3.98 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

as always the wheels come off here - not sure if I am psyching myself out about the run or not - I 8/2'd it again... so 6 minutes of walking in here
I need to keep plugging away at it...... frustrating to have 2-3 guys in my wave pass me in the last mile
What would you do differently?:

run not walk
Post race
Warm down:

staggered around as usual a few bananas and water helped

What limited your ability to perform faster:

humidity

Event comments:

nice race! they had a nice picnic - which I can't handle the food but everyone else seemed to enjoy .... I expect to be back next year

Nice job!  Sounds like you had an enjoyable experience.  I don't use gloves at all in races.  Don't need them in the aero.  Do yea wanna go for a foot race?  Just askin'

Great job yourself!  Thanks for the reminder about having fun out there.

Really?  Your swim was phenomenal!

Lets see: Great Swim, Good Bike, and you want to work on your run.

That sounds like a very "do-able" training focus.  You are ahead of most of us.  Good luck in your training and in your next race.
