Swim
Comments: I really wasn't ready for the the OWS. I had limited time in the lake prior to the race and I felt it. I went out way too fast the first 200m and then panicked. But I remembered the advise I was given, and stopped, rolled over to compose myself, and then continued on my way. The rest of the swim went good. What would you do differently?: Practise, practise, and more practise. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was included in the bike split. The wetsuit came off easily. It all went really smoothly, no problems at all. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Sadly, my bike was much slower than what I wanted. I was experiencing some pain in my right thigh due to a previous crash but pushed as hard as I could. What would you do differently?: Not go DH mountain biking a week before my race. Get aerobars for such a flat, straight course. Transition 2
Comments: T2 time included in bike split. Had a little trouble putting on my ankle brace. I hadn't practise putting it on in a hurry because I didn't think I'd be wearing it. But it was required due to mountain biking. What would you do differently?: Practise putting on ankle brace. Run
Comments: Decent run, but the leg was really beginning to hurt. But I kept the strides short and a turnover high with a light push-off and managed OK. Even had a enough left for a "kick" with 250m to go. What would you do differently?: Again, not go DH mountain biking a week before my race. Post race
Warm down: Ate the food, mingled, and waited for the door prizes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Leg, shoulder, and rib injuries sustained in mountain bike crashes the weekend before. Last updated: 2008-07-21 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5 am. Had a protein shake, granola bar, and some coffee. One last check, and I was off to the the race site by 6 am.
Donned my wetsuit, chatted with some family and friends, and watched the mini sprint swim and the start of the Oly.
Tried to calm the nerves for my first OWS race.
Short swim and dip to get used to the water and stretch out my sore shoulder.
