Total Time = 2h 48m 51s
Overall Rank = 483/1317
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 30/54
Pre-race routine:

Had some oatmeal and a banana in the morning. Did some morning stretches.Relaxed and enjoyed the sunrise.
Event warmup:

Got on my wetsuit and hit the water for 10 min before my wave.
Swim
  • 28m 30s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a fantastic swim! Had a couple of run ins with other folks, a little bump here and there. I kept on drifting off to the right, but caught myself before I got out of the wave. Felt relaxed and got into a good pace early on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I am happy with my swim performance. I need to work on swimming a little straighter but other than that, I felt very prepared.
Transition 1
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

I forgot to put down a gel when I got into the transition area, had to run back. I was really excited and pumped after the swim. I was a bit slow getting out wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything.
What would you do differently?:

Practice T1 more!
Bike
  • 1h 19m 43s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 19.64 mile/hr
Comments:

I have been training on this course for the last couple of months. It really showed on old stage rd. That hill really kicked some peoples butts, esp. the folks that weren't prepared for a 15% grade of that distance. I felt very strong and got up faster than usual.
What would you do differently?:

Keep on hitting that hill! Get better and stronger!
Transition 2
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Same thing as T1. First time ever, so I didn't want to mess up. I felt comfortable and ready for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions!
Run
  • 55m 59s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

I really focused on pacing myself out of T2. I knew it was going to be hot so I let myself relax into a pace that I felt comfortable with. All in all a 9 min pace was what I was looking to get, so I'm happy with my performance!
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on the running!
Post race
Warm down:

Cold towel after race, burrito, apple, banana, food! Lots of water. Really excited and couldn't even think of doing anything but celebrating!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lot of bikers on the course. I wasn't prepared for that. I got slowed down a lot by other people. I also had some mechanical problems with my bike. The chain came off twice. I managed to fix it while biking (dangerous maneuver!) and got back but lost some time.

Event comments:

I have herd a lot about the 5430 series of races and it lived up to the hype! They were a little late due to a back up at the body marking station but it was only 15 min and didn't bother me at all. I am really impressed with everything. I did it and can't wait for my second!

Wow, great job!  First race ever?  Even better!  I wish I also had the opportunity to train on Old Stage - absolutely would make a difference.
