Overall Rank = 241/434
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 169/248
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at a friends house in Richmond the night before and went to a Richmond Kickers Game. Not sure if my diet was ideal but I had a grilled chicken sandwich and a Reeses' Cup milkshake at Galaxy Diner.

Woke up at 5:30, ate a banana and half a bagel with peanut butter. Got to the site with plenty of time.
Event warmup:

I did go for a very short jog and bike ride but I had to wait so long to swim this was probably not of much value!
Swim
  • 06m 34s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

This was different. It was very fast which was nice since I'm not such a great swimmer. It was nice to get it out of the way quickly. I passed a few people and then it was open the rest of the way. I probably could have seeded myself a little faster.
What would you do differently?:

Resubmit a swim time closer to the race. I would really like to get faster so that I didn't have to wait so long to start. I was at the site at 6:00 but didn't really get started until almost 2.5 hours later!
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

I felt that my first transition was pretty good. This was probably based primarily on the fact that a couple of guys were at the transition before me and they were still there after I left. That's a good boost of confidence.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on getting onto the bike and going faster.
Bike
  • 39m 26s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Once again it was still a matter of catching my breath from the transition. Whew! Once I finally got into a good cadence I felt that I did pretty well and my pace was about as fast I can generally do at this point. There were more hills than I expected.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more swim/bike bricks.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
What would you do differently?:

I should probably try to run without socks for this short distance. I know it slows me down in the transition.
Run
  • 30m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Well ... not dead last like the last time! I didn't have any cramps until the very end either. I was pretty whooped starting out and my pace definitely suffered because of this. Once again more hills than expected. By the time I got to the turn around I was feeling pretty good again and started making up for my poor pace on the way out.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks would help I'm sure.
Post race
Warm down:

Uh... eat/drink/try to win prizes/eat/drink. Hung out with some folks from the Colonial Area Tri Club.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm not fast. Haha! But I'm getting faster.

Congratulations on the race!!  The seeding is usually a problem at the pool tris.  Sometimes it pays to seed yourself a little faster.

Very good race. Was good to get to meet you again at the race.  It's always nicer to have a long wait and share it with other people you know. Sorry the club tent wasn't there, that would have been much better. Looking forward to more races..
