Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:00 am. Ate a bagel, cottage cheese and V8. Took shower and hit the road. It took about an hour to get there. We were some of the first to get there. On the drive I had some Optigen Preformance and water. Was well hydrated before the race. Got Marked, picked up chip, set up transition. I need a headlamp, 5:30 am is still dark. After setting up transition, I looked over the transition area to find out where the swim was and where I would be running to.
Event warmup:

I took a light swim before the event started and ran to the bathroom to get rid of the pre-race jitters.
Swim
  • 38m 10s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Train for the distance you are going to swim!!! I was tired afterwards.
2:21.9 was the time to transition from the swim. It was over bare ground and through some trees, I think I handled it well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Need to learn to put shoes on, on the bike, this would speed things up. Also practice transitions. This one was alright, but I could be faster!
What would you do differently?:

Don't doubt that you have everything.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 9s
  • 40 kms
  • 32.37 km/hr
Comments:

Put the bike in the big gear. Was riding along time before I noticed. More training!! This was a long ride
What would you do differently?:

Don't overstuff the bag on the back. The zipper opened up and couldn't close it. Had to stuff it down my pants which was very uncomfortable!! Big scratch on my butt with loose stuff roaming around!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Transition went well, but I could be faster. This is a race!!! Had to fish bike gear out of my pants took some time.
What would you do differently?:

Treat it like a race.
Run
  • 52m 31s
  • 5.5 miles
  • 09m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

Was very hard going from bike to run, took a lap to get my rhythm down. Had to do some run/walks during the race
What would you do differently?:

Get in better running shape, and practice bike to run. This is very tough to get into a rhythm.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around drank some water and went to the lake to cool down and stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not having trained for the distance. I can be faster!

Event comments:

Train for your event, I trained for a sprint and did a Oly. It was long!

Way to stick with it! Sounds like you've got some good ideas from this race to help in your next race - and not get a sore butt.
