Sunny
Total Time = 7h 30m
Overall Rank = 183/266
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 19/24
Pre-race routine:

Just hung out with 2 friends and chatted with any other triathletes that weren't in the "leave me alone" zone. Went for a short run. Ate a cliff peanut butter bar and continuously drank water, which meant I had to pee twice before the race started.
Event warmup:

Just waded in and did a few strokes while waiting for my wave.
Swim
  • 16m 6s
  • 587 yards
  • 02m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

I planned on staying back, as I'm not a great swimmer. I found myself gaining on the main body of the wave, so I went with it until I got kicked in the head and panicked a little. The remainder of the swim was a bit of a struggle.
What would you do differently?:

Just need more swim training and open water training.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

I rode in my running shoes, so it was a pretty quick transition.
What would you do differently?:

Run out of the lake after the swim. I lost time feeling tired. I should have just sucked it up.
Bike
  • 57m 52s
  • 16 miles
  • 16.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Need to work on my hills and just keeping the pace up.
What would you do differently?:

Would have liked to have gotten out of the water a little sooner. Having other riders to pass is great motivation, but the field was pretty stretched out by the time I finished my swim and T1. Also will train harder on bike. I'd also skip trying to put on the cycling gloves. No more energy gels. My throat was so dry I nearly threw up the gel.
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

The Brick. I shuffled a bit like an old man, but I got her done.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the bricks more.
Run
  • 28m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

The climb was killer, but doable. The course is out and back, so the athletes on their way down were very encouraging.
What would you do differently?:

I'd push that hill more. I felt really good on the way down, so I feel like I probably didn't expend enough energy on the way up.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked it off, celebrated finishing my first tri with my friends over a nice cold bottle of water. Also did a little stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Over-trained on the run and neglected the bike too much. I think I failed mentally on the swim, but still put in one of my better swim times.

Event comments:

This was a great race for a first-time triathlete like myself. It was well organized, the other athletes were excellent and the course wasn't overly intimidating (although the initial part of the run was crazy). A+
