I just hope I can find a few folks from BT on the run to say hi to.

Now for the important things. Is there a coffee maker at the BT house, or do I need to bring one? I need a cup of joe in the morning.

Very good question! I would say, if you've got room, bring one, just so we don't leave anything to chance

Anyone in Benton Harbor right now? How is the weather and wind feeling? From the forecast, it looks like today will be almost exactly like race day. A bit of wind, very sunny, kinda warm, pretty humid- not too bad overall!

Coffee maker, coffee, filters packed. I'll probably pick up a quart of half and half for community use. If you need sugar your on your own.

I also have some plastic spoons and forks from vacation, but just a few knives. The stuff's kinda of cheap, but I'll bring them along if needed.

Freakin' beautiful out.  I'd take a replicate of today.  Which, is pretty much exactly what it was like last year.

Sweet. So is the wind going to be in our face on the way back on the bike? Does it feel constant, or is it gusty?

I remember last year's run being hot. But, I also just came from paradise, and hadn't taken a beat down from the midwest yet, so hopefully I've adapted.

I find it ironic that the ferret doesn't do coffee.

I've been informed that I'm leaving really early so we can be there to swim on Friday. Thank god, that's the one thing I can do without training.

And I'll watch you all drink the coffee, Vaya Con Cornholio style. Heh.

Even with me doing the run, we could be on the podium with Trixie's world record 56 mile bike split.

I was out at lunch. It's hot, but no different from last year.  I'd say its a typical midwestern summer day.  Very little wind.  It will be in our face if it's out of the S, SSW or SW.   We'll just have to see come race day.  Although the predictions lately have been 8-12mph.

Here are some photos I took during my lunch hour at the race site - to get you all psyched up!!!

I'm learning too and have never been in one of these with so many people. When you come up to pass someone, do you have to get over to the left before getting within four bike lengths or can you come up on them in the draft and then veer out with 1-2 lengths and make the pass if it is all done within 15s? Sorry for being stupid here but I don't want to be too anal about the pass if it is unnecessary.

Hi-

I'm a beginner and finished my first sprint earlier this month.  I live in the St. Joe/BH area...you guys need any kind of area information-decent hotels, restaurants, etc.?

And you guys rock...I hope to do an Olympic someday but have a lot of work to do

Are we meeting up at the site for the swim/bike tomorrow?  If so, I would assume the swim finish so we don't need to walk to the start.

We are leaving at 6 central time, so I will hopefully be rolling in around midnight.

Looking forward to meeting all of you since this is the first race I have done that I dont know at least 5-10 people doing the race.

My wife's also doing the run leg on a relay team (#1371).  It will be her first exposure to triathlon.  Say "hi" but no using her as pace booty or I'll have to smack you all down.

Hah, we'll treat her nice! We wont' pace behind her! And I have some land for sale in Florida! What's she look like again?

It's cool that shes joining in. My wife so far has only been an unofficial photographer. But that's okay, she gets some decent shots now and then. She keeps a notebook with race numbers and if people give her their e-mail address, she e-mails any pics she gets of the athlete and/or family. It's fun to have her there.

We have 20 sec to complete a pass on the bike, not 15". Rules are located here....

Welcome to the world of BT. It is a lot of fun. You have already done a Half-marathon, so it won't take as much work as you may think to complete an Olympic someday! Did you do the Firecracker this year? I did that one. It was nice for me to preview what Steelhead will be like. Except of course for the distance!

Triathletes are some of the nicest people I have known in the competitive sports world. I don't know why, but I suspect it has something to do with the idea that we really race against ourself and the clock.

Good luck and welcome!

I did do the Firecracker...it was my first.  The swimming is my worst part...lol  I didn't have a wetsuit (my friend was going to mail me hers and it didn't get there).  Wow was it cold!  So a pathetic second to last after the swim, but I passed people the rest of the way to finish.  That uphill sand at the end was mean-LOL.

I did it on a $100 Mt. Bike and had no specialized equipment.  (I wanted to make sure I liked it before I bought anything major.)  I finished 10 min. faster than my goal.  I'm hooked.  I'm also doing the Super-Sprint in Niles (really little) on Aug 30.

I'm hoping to work on my swimming this winter to gear up for next year.  I'm also going to work on some more weight training to strengthen my core.  I think that will help to make my run faster.   I also got a faster bike.  I average almost 4 mph faster than my tri.

I think triathletes are the nicest and thanks so much for the support.

Friday, August 1 Pre-race Info

11am - Swim:   Meet on the West (beach-facing) side of the Gazebo on South End of Expo.  This is where body-marking takes place.

Noon - Short bike ride:  Meet at the volunteer parking lot near the park entrance (gatehouse).  This is the grassy lot just North of this year's transition area.  This was the T-area in 2007.  We'll then be "wheels-up" at 12:10 to ride the run-portion of the course.  See the green dot on this map: Steelhead Transition Area

6:30pm - Dinner at Papa Vinos 1332 Hilltop Road St. Joseph, 269-983-9900:  This is a confirmed reservation for 8 people under "Beginner Triathlete."  kdogtoo (2), BamBam, McFuzz, pshorty are all "in" with room for 3 more.
