Total Time = 7h 34m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = F50-54
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:15 am. Too early to eat. Choked down a few bites of oatmeal. Drank lots of water. Drove from Santa Rosa to Guerneville and found a parking space a few 100 yards from the start. No lines at the portapotty since we got there at 5AM. Unloaded the two bikes that we had crammed into a little tiny rental car and started putting them together.
Event warmup:

Chatted with the ladies in my rack area. Started putting the wetsuit on early since it seemed to be getting colder out. Made my way down to the beach and ran into some BTers and chatted with them until it was time to get into the water.
Swim
  • 49m 36s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

My heart rate stayed low throughout the swim. I couldn't believe how easy navigation was and I rarely had to stop and sight. Goggles behaved. Water temp was perfect. Swim wave that started behind me caught up and passed me, but that's ok, I expected that.
What would you do differently?:

Really nothing. I know I'm a slow swimmer and just the fact that I didn't panic or have OWS issues, I am really happy with my swim.
Transition 1
  • 05m 33s
Comments:

The transition area was dirt, so I didn't want to sit and get muddy, so I tried to remove my wetsuit while standing. Wetsuit got muddy, but I didn't. Wetsuit got stuck on my chip, but I was able to get it off ok. Put on a dry jersey and socks. I walked my bike up the hill, didn't want to try and clip in a ride to the top of the hill. This was much better.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a bigger towel so I don't have to stand on a tiny towel and try to get out of my wetsuit.
Bike
  • 3h 38m
  • 56 miles
  • 15.41 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun, beautiful technical course. Challenging hill at on Chalk Hill Road, but got er done.
What would you do differently?:

Push myself a bit more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 08m 6s
Comments:

Slow transition, but I wanted to be comfortable on the run, so I took my time getting dry socks on and drinking some HEED before I went out on the run course. Made sure I had plenty of endurolytes and shot bloks in my jersey pocket.
Run
  • 2h 52m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Hilly course.
What would you do differently?:

Try to run a bit more than walk. Need more hill training.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the food tent and ate a few bites of a dry chicken sandwich and some fruit. Changed shoes and grabbed my bags and loaded the bikes.

Event comments:

I loved this race will do it again!!!

SWEEEAAATTT! one down and which ones next? You first 1/2 IM and you did it. Great time in the swim and a good time on both bike and run. I was thinking of doing this race next year depending on SOMA. Glad you had a great time.....

Congrats!!!

You are an AWESOME ATHLETE! Great job on the race. I was so happy you recognized me at the race briefing and we got to meet. Glad I caught you at the end of the bike, too! You looked tired, but really solid, and you went on to put a good run in even on the hills.

(Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought it was getting colder after 5:30am...thought maybe I was imagining it!)
