Subject: Casual Shoe Size VS Running Shoe Size?

Hello All,

I normally wear 12's in casual & dress shoes.  But I have always run in 13's.  Most specialty running shoe stores tell me I need the extra room in my running shoes.  Do you agree with this?  Are your running shoes a larger size than you normally wear?

Although the 13's are perfectly comfortable, they just look so damn big and goofy.  On top of that, the New Balance model I wear is a stability / motion control shoe so it has some added bulk.

I would love to find some more streamline running shoes with some level of support.  Fot those of you who pronate, what do you wear?  I have been eyeing Newtons.  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I go up 1/2 size on my running shoes. Your feet will swell as you run, so it's always been recommended to size up on them.

I'm a pronater (who also suffers from the occasional bout of plantar fasciitis) and I've tried just about every stability shoe out there. I've currently settled on the Adidas Supernova Sequence (formally the Supernova Control) and I'm liking it, thus far. Prior to this shoe, I was wearing the new Etonic Kendari...which I liked as well, but prefer the cushioning on the Adidas a bit more. I'm not a forefoot striker, so the Newtons wouldn't work for me...therefore, I can't comment on them.

Depends on how far you run. The pounding of running will make your feet swell. Some people go up a half size from street shoes, I go up a full size, as some of my training runs are over 20 miles.

I stay the same size (10.5) but buy wide (2E) running shoes.
