Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 29s
Overall Rank = 38/302
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 1/23
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 4:30, adored the dog for 5 minutes (Steve is out of town!), up, dressed and out for a quick walk with Allie. Out the door at 5is, poptarts and diet pepsi in hand. (the usual)
Event warmup:

not much, walk back and forth to the car 3 times...forgot the sunglasses, put the parking pass on, drop off Gatorade bottle etc.
Swim
  • 10m 29s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt great, probably my best ever. Was able to get on one girls feet, but then would hit her feet a few times so backed off. Then, back on em...off and on. Came out of water at 9:50 something. Swim was reported to be 650yds, others thought 440. Not sure. Do NOT think it ws 440. Im not THAT slow! Nice warm water, but I wore the wetsuit anyway, this suit really does help me! Yup, distance was 600 per RD.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, felt awesome!
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

T1 felt a bit slow, though it was a tight transition area (ie no long runs to get in or out). I was close to bike out and in which helps.
What would you do differently?:

hmmm, not sure. The suit alsways comes off the same (which is far better than the old suit!) Im putting socks on different now (folding almost inside out, with " on. Works great!
Bike
  • 40m 35s
  • 14.4 miles
  • 21.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Not sure of bike distance. Was not 15. Couple of reports of 14.25, mine said 14 but I know mine is short. (got new tires, and did not do new roll out and changing of computer). Why can't courses be measured accurately?? Some hip pain on bike (hasn't happened before), was kind of distracting. Later note, 14.4 miles per RD.
What would you do differently?:

Not be so cautious on corners!
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Fair T2, hesitated deciding whether or not to gel there, so I could wash it down, or run. Gulped some Gatorade, then ran with the Gel. Started to turn towards bike out, but corrected that goof quickly. Put belt on while running.
What would you do differently?:

Bring disposable bottle to drink while running out, then pitch bottle in trash. Would save 6-8 sec. Forgot to bring a hat, but oh well, more sun on the face that I don't want!
Run
  • 23m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Strong run, felt great. Never struggled with breathing or fatigue. (heck, its only 3 miles!) Made wise choice NOT to stop at last water station, figured it won't absorb by finish anyway. Saved a few seconds. Some pain with run, but I just tried to ignore it.
What would you do differently?:

Run a bit harder. I didn't suffer on this run, so must not have left enough on the course!
Post race
Warm down:

wandered aimlessly, visiting Donkai, and chatting with some people from work etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

pain (though not sure hot much I let this limit me, amazing what adrenaline will let you tolerate!)

Event comments:

No water set up for before the race, just a small issue! Swim distance not advertised on the web site, or mentioned at the race. THAT was really odd! Bike distance not accurate. But, I shouldn't be an armchair race director! Great food after, and they did NOT run out! Cute awards for first...little bobble head runners! 7th OA female!! Yeah, felt good, and results sort of showed it! Guess the mega miles riding has helped!
