Swim
Comments: The swim went really well. I was breathing a bit too fast to start so I just concentrated on that and was feeling comfortable pretty quickly. I much prefer this to the two pool swims I've done. I was so busy sighting, looking for openings or drafts or just plain not getting run over that it just flew by. When I looked up and noticed everyone turning I was surprised because it hadn't felt that long. Considering I have been worried about this swim and almost chickened out of entering because of it I was really happy with how it went. I could have gone for quite a bit longer as I finished feeling great. What would you do differently?: I will know next time that I can push myself more and still make it. I think if there was anywhere on this course to shave a minute or two it would have been here. Also...listen to the pre race announcements better !!!!!!! Transition 1
Comments: Smooth transition other than my biking gloves sticking so that was an extra 10 or 15 seconds but it was so hot riding up here in the previous day I was sweating too much to be without them. I was ranked 301/369 so I obviously have some improvements to make that will come from experience. What would you do differently?: Have a tri top that is comfortable under the wetsuit so I don't have to put it on in T1 Bike
Comments: This course in so beautiful overlooking Okanagan lake. Tough though. The announcer said it was rated the 2nd hardest at this distance in Canada. Yikes. My legs were burning quite a bit going up the first hills out of town, but that disappeared soon... or maybe it's just that my back started to ache more. My back had been feeling good lately so I'm not sure what was up, but it was pretty stiff the whole ride. I was lucky not to be a bit faster as I only got to watch the riders skirting deer as they ran across the road and missed a crazy ass coyote that launched itself off a hill onto the roadway and almost straight into a woman's front tire. It was close, she looked shocked, but must have had good handling skills cause she kept on the road. What would you do differently?: Not forget to put my gel in the pocket of my jersey. Transition 2
Comments: Not much to report here. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: The run was had one looong hill, then a bit more hills, then add a big dose of... you guessed it a big darn hill. Then Ohhh, since it was an out and back what comes up must come down. My knees where complaining on the down, but I only had to walk at one point up the above noted hill so I was happy with that even if I wasn't fast. I think I even passed one or two people( and of course got passed by a few). The aid stations had cups of ice so I was pouring those into my tri top to stay cool. Very nice. What would you do differently?: Train a bit more on hills when your planned race had a big bloody hill as it's main feature. Post race
Warm down: Walked back to where my Mom, Dad, sister, Bil and the kids were by the giant peach then took Madelyn and Connor to wade in the lake for a few minutes. The we spent a fantastic day at the beach. I went down to listen to the awards and visit the buffet, but it was too hot and I headed back to the beach before they wrapped it all up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Newness to the sport, experience on the bike, first OWS triathlon with three weeks of wetsuit practice. Role that in with fitting training in around caring for three little kids and I must say I am so happy just to be out there doing it. If I never get any faster I'll be fine with that as long as I can finish with a smile on my face. Event comments: Excellent intersection control and volunteer presence. Great race experience. I will be trying this one again next summer. Last updated: 2008-03-04 12:00 AM

I woke up at 5am, had a bowl of cereal and then thought I'd sneak in a shower to wake up ~ not like I wouldn't be getting soaked in less than 2 hours ~
I was much better organized than last time and only took what I needed into transition
Speculating to my Dad that the course looked WAAAYYY to long to be 1500m and the GPS must be off. lol It DID look awefully far. I'm getting better at putting the wetsuit on so that wasn't even much of a warm up today. They changed the start from two waves to one single wave so I was almost late to the party since I'd put my earplugs in and wasn't really listening. I thought I had plenty of time since the men hadn't even left yet when I notices everyone was in the water. Oops
