Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 4:30 before the alarm went off and could not go back to sleep so I just went ahead and got up. After being up for a little while and getting my race stuff on I decided I might as well head out a little early and beat the crowd so I did. However, in my rush to leave I forgot my bike!!! I remembered it about 10 minutes down the road and had to come back for it. That was a close one!!
Event warmup:

A little bike, run, and swim.
Swim
  • 16m 34s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

The gun went off and I went straight for the front!! LOL!! I did pretty well up to the first turn buoy but then I had to back it down. The first buoy actually took longer to get to than I thought it would. After that, I did not get into a smooth rhythm. I should have just found some feet and rode them in but oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down and concentrate more on my stroke. My time would have been faster if I had done this, I think!!
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Pretty good time.
What would you do differently?:

Put my shoes on the bike, maybe??
Bike
  • 41m 24s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.74 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed this about as well as I could given my fitness. Plus I did not want to blow up on the run!! I only had two people pass me and I passed 7 or 8. I came up on a group of 5 at about mile 11 and passed them and that's about when the two guys came around me and they were not legal distance apart!!
What would you do differently?:

Bike more!!! My biking is starting to take shape but I just need to get out there more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

I thought I did okay with this one.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 21m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I did not see anyone on the first loop except the top two guys who passed me on their second loop. I knew both of them so it was nice to cheer each other on. After the first loop the run course was packed so I was able to find some people to run with and motivate me. It also made the time go by a lot quicker.
What would you do differently?:

I would have ran a little harder on the first loop!!
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with all the guys and talked about the race. We then went over to the food tent and pigged out a little. They had a nice spread of food!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was either a lack of intensity/speedwork or a need for more rest b/c my heart rate was not where it needed to be on the run. I will have to figure this one out!!

Nice race. I did the same thing on the swim but was able to hold on. Ended up in no man's land all the way after the second turn.

Those were some pretty good transition times.
