Subject: No brick workouts?

I'm doing my first tri in 2.5 weeks and although I have trained hard, I've never gotten around to doing any brick workouts.  I've only done one type of workout per day.  It's a sprint and I can fairly easily do each of the "legs."  Am I slightly doomed since I haven't combined any of my workouts?  Is there still time to make a difference?

Thanks!

Nah, not doomed at all ... and though doing a couple bricks won't make any physiological difference (some would say they don't, regardless), it could do you a world of good to feel beforehand how your legs are going to feel coming off a hard bike. Generally, they don't feel very good, but having practiced it a couple times before, you'll know what it feels like and that the feeling does pass.

Just 5-10 min. easy running off the bike is plenty; no need to combine workouts, esp. 2.5 weeks out. At this point, it might also be good to practice your transitions, since they can be very confusing on race day, and you'll feel much more confident having practiced them.

Super good luck at your tri!

You are not doomed. You need to plan. Bricks are a fundemental training block. If you have 2.5 weeks. you should plan one.

bricks serve two real purposes, nothing else.

one, they show you what it feels like to run after biking, or bike after swimming, they are mental, let you know what things are going to feel like, etc.

two, they are a great way to lengthen a workout session without overdoing on sport.

there are a great many very very fast people out there that never, or very rarely do bricks.

youll be fine, do one or two if you feel the need, but dont worry about it, you'll have a blast and the brick wont change that at all

Next time you finish a ride you could hop off the bike, throw on some running shoes, and do 5-10 minutes of easy running. Tada, you will have done a brick!

xWhatever on the mental aspect. Also a great time to really nail down your T2. Don't forget to brick your swim-bike, and nail the T1. I KILLED my transitions just by practicing them (and watching the video on here).

Ditto... you can do this for 2 or 3 of your bikes without impacting your training (overdoing it). just a slow jog to get the feeling out of your legs. It's not really a run workout per se.

I'll bet at some point they did bricks, or did them more often. I'd say for a new triathlete bricks are vital.
