I'm looking for a good pair of trail shoes for running in winter (snow/ice/slush) as well as trail running...

Thanks in advance for your inputs !

Christian.

I haven't used those but I have worn Nike trail running shoes for a while.  One note of caution - the guy at the running store I bought my last shoes from told me that trail running shoes will lose their support much faster than road shoes if you wear them to run on asphalt or cement (since they aren't intended for use on hard surfaces).  I had to replace my last pair at 200 miles after using them for a mix of trail/treadmill/road running.

I didn't ever think they really helped my traction all that much, so I've switched back to road shoes, which work fine for me on trails.  Can't speak to their usefullness on snow/ice, though they're generall more waterproof.

i've used new balance trail runners with success. regular running shoes have, in general, much more support though. i used my regular trainers for my 1/2 marathon trail run last year. muddy, rocky, slick conditions, but i was fine. that said, there is a benefit to having trail runners in the winter, since they tend to be more waterproof. i have yaks trax on my old trail runners and use those on icy days. you might consider getting some trail runners for winter and sloppy trail running, but some regular shoes for dry trail? best of luck finding some shoes.

Brooks has several models of offroad/all season running shoes depending on your needs...Check out Zappos online for great prices and free shipping. I really like the Adrenaline ASR but the new Cascadia looks like a good choice also. I also have a couple pairs of the Addicition ASR...they are comfortable but a little more support and stability then I need. I prefer the Adrenaline personally.

I know it may not be a popular opinion but I trail run in dedicated hiking shoes. I run on pretty steep and rocky terrain though where traction is pretty darn important. So if those are the types of trails you run on I would go with a good pair of Asolo's w/vibram soles.

When on regular flat to rolling trails with not much need for extra traction I run in my regualr running shoes.

I can't answer your question, but I can recommend my favorite trail-running shoes: Salomon XA pro. Light, stable, lots of protection, quick-drying, excellent traction. Made for adventure racing, so you can run on trails and even go hiking in them. Definitely not recommended for asphalt or other hard surfaces.

I have a pair of Montrail Hardrocks that I like. I had to monkey with the insole to get the arch support where I needed it, but they definitely are great for light hiking and trail running. And yes, they completely suck for running on the road...
