I have had problems over the years with leaking goggles. I have used the basic speedo style goggles, some more expensive TYR. Now I am using Aqua Sphere Seal XP, which seems pretty good but leak at the outside corners. Maybe they are slightly wide for my face. I can swim for about 300 yds before they will start to leak. I have tried tightening them so tight that they leave a mark on my face for 30 minutes after I take them off, and they will still leak eventually.

Any info would be greatly appreaciated.

Is the nose piece adjustable?  I know on most goggles you can adjust the length, which may fix your problem.

I have had this problem too.  Try putting them on with the straps under your swim cap.  That sometimes does the trick for me.

Also, wet them first  then press onto your face.

Put the strap higher on your head... About 3" above your ears.

I looked for years for a pair of goggles that fit, and then they stopped making them. I learned my lesson and whenever I found a pair that fit I bought 2 pair. Lucky for me TYR continues to carry their Racetech goggles after many years.  Best bet is to make sure they fit before you buy them. When pressed to you face they should stay on (at least briefly - count of 3) without the strap on.

any issues with a deviated septum?  When I first put goggles on, I thought I did something wrong, then I remembered I've had my nose broken 4 times, so that off-center look is totally normal.   However, like you, through the years, I've had goggles leak after a few minutes of swimming as well.

My understanding is making the strap tighter will not really help.  You just need to find one that stick to your face for a few seconds without the strap on our head.  You will have to experiment in the store with this though.  Once you find ones that fit just keep buying them.

That could be a possibility, I have had broken my nose 3 times and it leans to one side more.

I will have to try that. Also, the swim cap over the top has helped a little.

I went through several then found the TYR racetech with the adjustable nose clip works the best for me. My left eye never leaks but the right eye will from time to time.

I agree with the the TYR adjustable nose strap. I have bought those for about a year, then tried a new "cool" looking pair and wound up going back to my old ones because of the leaking issue (despite tightening the straps). When the nose adjustment gets out of whack, I almost immediately have a leak.

I'm really not having problems with leaking - I like my goggles. I wear the Barracuda Ultimate.

My problem is with fogging. I tried the spray and it made it only worse.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I have 2 suggestion for the OP:

1) Buy different goggles. AquaSphere's are great! But, if they don't fit your face right, there's not much that's going to change that.

2) A trick I just decided to try recently is to put a thin layer of vaseline around my eyes where the goggles seal.  It prevents me from having to squish the goggles into my face so hard, and creates a nice little water-proof barrier that fills in any imperfect areas where water can seep in.  It might be worth a try for you.

Good luck!  By the way, Barracuda's should be on your list of goggles to try. Good stuff!

After decades (literally) of the spit and rinse method I just tried using "Sea Gold" gel that I picked up from a dive shop for my last snorkeling trip. It worked great. I just used it for a 5000 meter open water race and it helped my sighting, but not my swimming straight between sightings :-) I have no plans to use it in practice though.

I bought a set and they both leak and fog up. They are very comfortable though.

As noted, you need to try out goggles in the store until you find ones that fit.  I have a very wide nosebridge, so I needed ones that have an adjustable nose strap.

For fogging, I use stuff in a little bottle called Spit.  It lasts much longer than my spit.  Did a one mile OWS without any fogging.

As an owner of a multiple broken nose, i have a hard time finding gogles as well. Currently, I am a very big Tyr fan; I used the Racetech for a couple of years but i recently switched to the Tyr Nest Pro. These goggles ROCK; they are soft on my eyesockets, hardly leave marks after a long swim and are overall comfy.

For the foggers. Itsy bit of baby shampoo works well. Applied just like the spit. For ones whose goggles just started fogging but they used to not do it. Most goggles have a film on them to help prevent fogging. Over time, this wears off... or so I heard. So a new pair might also fix your problem. The vaseline trick is the only way to snorkel if you have facial hair (mask leaks around the mustache)... so I can see it helping the barrier on your goggles too.

I also have a hard time finding goggles that fit right. I could not get a good fit with the 3 different nosepeices provided with the last pair. However the Tyr Nest Pro fit perfectly with no leaking and very minimal strap tightness.

When trying on goggles try to find a pair that will vacum seal to your face with no straps. They won't stay on for long but they should seal up to your face and some what stay on with out the strap.
