Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

Sat. our plans changed so I decided to race - glad I did. At home, I reviewed the list of things I forgot last week and did much better at
remembering all my stuff.
Event warmup:

Stretched a wee little bit.
Swim
  • 13m 48s
  • 711 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was 2 waves. boys then girls. I just stayed on the inside and followed everyone in front of me. At one point the sun glare was very bad and I just followed the bubbles in front of me. I passed some guys and felt good throughout the whole swim. After last weeks tragedy at NJ State, I was careful around other swimmers and gave people lots of room who wanted to pass or whom I was passing. Not a lot of support in the water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Had trouble gettin suit off - and I forgot to gear down on my bike. Took a while to get up to speed. I had a nice end spot with nobody to the side of me. It was nice not to be so squished in all over and I got to hang my wetsuit on the rack so it wasn't all wet after the race.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to put my bike in the right gear before I rack it. More body glide on the ankles.
Bike
  • 46m 14s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

I had to stand for 1 hill but it actually felt nice to stand. I was leapfrogging with one other woman for a while - I'd pass her going up and she'd pass me going down. Then she dropped me with a few miles to go.
What would you do differently?:

Keep focused more. During the last 5 or so minutes my mind was wandering about too much. Wondering where I was, trying to figure out what to do for our 5 yr. anniversary, how tired Im gonna be at the Police concert tonight, etc, etc...Stay focused.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

OUCH!!Bad foot cramp and I had to sit and massage it out.
What would you do differently?:

Not cramp up. Practice getting out of shoes while the bikes still rolling.
Run
  • 25m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

I think it was a flat 3 miles. The first mile was down, the last one was obviously up. Not a fun 3rd mile. Got passed by one girl in my AG on the run but I just couldn't keep up. She wound up getting 2nd in AG and I was 3rd.
What would you do differently?:

Catch #2 girlie!
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and coke, waited with Bill for Al to finish.

Event comments:

I'd give it a 5 but there were no shirts for people who registered the day of. I realize that this is probably only a handful of races where you actually can register the day of but for $100, a shirt would be nice.

I was excited to get 3rd in AG - one girl in my AG won 2nd OA so my #4 finish got me 3rd. Yippee :)

Great race!  I was probably one of the guys you blew past in the water.  Congratulations on the hardware!
