I see a lot of talk about people training in groups or with partners.  I have always trained alone and like it that way.  I do some workouts with my SO, but not many.  I guess I am kind of a loner when it comes to training.  I like to train when I want, how I want and where I want.  I don't like the hassle of coordinating with someone else.  Am I the only one that likes to train solo?

X2

I do probably 95% solo and the other is an occasional group ride. I don't dislike groups or training partners, it's just that most don't work within my schedule.

I do all my training alone at the moment for the exact same reasons as you.

I train on my own, too.  Mainly because I enjoy the alone time.  There is also the fact that I am completely and utterly intimidated by the idea of a group ride.

I prefer to train the bulk of my workouts alone, however I find group runs and rides to be nice because they push you harder than you would normally push yourself and if your running low on ambition, having the commitment to the group can get you past that.

I train alone almost all the time. It does get kinda boring, but logistically, it's easier to work on my own schedule, rather than try to coordinate with others.

Well, I have a real hard time training at the low efforts that are mentioned.  Everybody says to reduce intensity, and increase volume to reduce risk of overtraining.  Seems like having a group push me is the last thing I need.

With 5 kids, time is limited so training solo makes the most sense. I probably do 98% training alone. I do love group rides but they don't fit well into my life. I did a bunch of long rides this winter down on the Cape with a BT friend within a club ride as roads down there are better condition in the winter as it is warmer.

I find when I do a fun group ride it is like a gift and I have a great time. Very rarely does it really fit into my training plan well. Paces and abilities vary a lot, but the fun factor rocks!

I joined the tri team of my LBS this year, and have done a handful of runs and rides, and even a swim with them. It's been good to meet some local competitors and to be pushed a bit at times. It's good to train with people who are better and pick their brains a bit. Typically, I'm a lone wolf, but I've enjoyed an occasional worout with others. On race day, it's nice to have some people to hang out with.

I like group runs and rides, but, with life getting in the way, most of my current IM training has been solo, and, to be honest, it has been kind of nice to get the time to myself.

80% group, 20% solo.   Just works out that schedules fit.  By group I mean anywhere from 1-8 people.

As for intensity, I train for the most part with people that are faster than me, it has done wonders for me, and I get much more intensity in a group than alone.

But when I have specific IM training to do, I often end up alone to avoid the herd mentality

Swimming is almost 100% group and for me, it's the only way to train.   I do a lot more a lot faster than on my own

Triathlon is an intensely personal pursuit and challenge.

Therefore I train in solitude.

I'm definitly a lone trainer. I agree with the poster above, tri is intensly personal, I love to push myself to my goals, rather than feel pushed to them by a group.

I competed in road for several years, and we always trained as a team, always. Tri I do for myself.

I have done 99% of my training alone.  Every time I go out with someone - it ends up dissapointing.  Maybe I need to find better partners....

If I do go with someone, I tell them what I'm planning to do, and they can join in.

I guess I'm also a stickler for my plan, and I want to stick to it the best I can.  I don't want to go longer or shorter or modify to any great extent what I'm supposed to do.  It hasn't been a big deal to the others I have tried to go out with, because for them it may just be a weekend ride and that's it.  I have to consider the swim or the run the day after or the day before....

About 95% alone. I will join a running buddy occasionally, for long runs and have gone on some group rides mainly when on roads in unfamiliar areas. I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to riding on roads by myself (having been hit by a car once). On the trail I'm fine and prefer to be by myself. Overall, it's just easier to only have to fit things into my schedule and I can tailor the session to my goals for the day.

100% of my training has been solo; primarily because I live in a rural area with no tri club close by.  I think I'd like the push of training with someone better than me, but I've come to really enjoy the time to myself.  It's extremely peaceful.

SOLO!

Group sessions do not maintain the same level of intesity as the pressure I can put on myself.

I have always been a lone wolf when it comes to training. I'm able to motivate and push myself by "racing the clock". I set time goals in my workouts that more than challenge me. In fact, what little group training I have done helps to reel myself in a bit and not always push so hard.

For the most part I'm pretty slow so it is easier to train on my own.  One place I do train with a group is swimming.  We have coached workouts each week that net between 5-20 people so I guess that would qualify a group.

A group of us were cycling up Mt. Lemmon this summer and because my ave spd was <5 mph I ended up alone most of the time.  I hate making people wait or slow down so I don't mind at all.  Sometimes the hubby will slow down for me (when I ask nicely), and he's been easy on teaching me to mountain bike.

Yeah, I train solo too, would like to join a club but the only poit of that to me would be the social aspect, and I got enough of that in my life already.

Solo.  If I could find a group for swimming, I'd try it.  Other than that, training is my only time to be alone, plus most people want to talk while they train in groups and I hate talking while I'm training.

95% of my training is solo.  I enjoy group runs and rides when they line up scheduling wise, but most of the time it's "me verses me"....like it is in a race.
