Looks like there are quite a bit of you out in BT land doing the race!

Let's get some names and such to the user names and see if we can chear each other on!

I'm Rick, and I'm a triaholic ........

My goals for the race are to see where my recovery is from Lake Placid a few weeks ago and see if I can parley any of that training into a decnt shorter distance time.

Times?  I'd like to be under 30 for the swim, right around 1:00 for the bike and 40:00 for the run.  We'll see how that goes since I have not done any speedwork on the bike or run in a while.

How about everyone else??

Hey Daremo (aka Rick)!

Dave here from Middletown, MD (the one near Frederick). I saw Lake Placid looked like it actually had 2 swim legs with the torrential rain :-(. Though I haven't done that distance, I understand a bit what that feels like as two of my events have been in the rain this season. Sounds like you finished and if so, Congrats!

Anyway, just an Age Grouper looking for perhaps a PR on this course, but mostly doing this one with friends from my club. Did it last year and it's a nice event, though the swim is murky. Bike and run are okay. Plenty of support and decent food afterwards. I'm not overly fast but I would like to finish the swim in under 35 and the run under the 8 something pace I did last year. As long as there's no mechanicals on the bike, I'll probably do okay with that as I came in a bit over an hour last year.

Still, the idea is to have fun and finishing is always the ultimate goal no matter what else happens. Plus, my friends will be there racing and we'll have plenty to talk about afterwards when we're enjoying the after race festivities.

Good luck and hope you have a good race! Same to everyone else who chimes in!

BTW, though it's a bit far away, weather looks okay come race morning at the moment. But I don't want to completely jinx things, so I'll just wait and post an update next week when we're closer.

I've raced in just about all conditions.  Eagleman this year was 90+ degrees and 90%+ humidity.  Lake Placid was a 140.6 mile swim.  And last year's Boston was one of the coldest, windiest on record and also wet.  But I've also had my perfect weather days in races, so I can't complain!

Who else out there in BT land is participating?!  I know you're out there lurking .....

Hi,

I'm Nicole. I'm doing the sprint distance race. I don't quite understand how both races will be run at the same time.

Hope to meet some of you there.

Yup, did Eagleman too this year! And you're right...last year was near perfect weather for all my races. So you play the hand you're dealt the best you can.

The one event web page says the Sprint wave starts ahead of the Olympic. So they'll probably have broad age group waves for each distance event, start the Sprint waves first followed by the Olympic distance waves. The Athlete Guide is now available via the website but it doesn't have the waves. However, it does have the courses for both distances. You can see on the swim that you will turn at the second red buoy, crossover to the other red buoy, and head to the finish. So, more than likely, the Sprint waves will be out of the water by the time the first Olympic is getting to transition. The CGI Newsletter says that the wave, entry list, and bib# will be posted on the Registration page under the T-shirt on Aug 12. So, we should find out then.

Hey Nicole! Good luck! If you haven't done this event, it's a decent one to do. Likewise - look for the blue Felt S32 with the wheel cover. White Zoot cap, blue fuel belt on the run - much like my BT pic. That'll be me. Have fun!

I'll be in my Team Zoot Gu uniform (blue, black and white .... can't miss it).  And everyone who's been around BT a bit knows Blackbird which is my carbon black Felt B2 with Zipp 999 wheels on it.

I will be heading down from Philly suburbs (Malvern).  Since this is my first Oly and third race...ever... I am pretty much confident I will only see you at the start line and the finish line, if you have not left yet. I just started this Tri stuff this year...I too am now an addict!  If I can do 35 swim 1:15 bike and 55m run I will be happy!  I am a bit worried about the hills on this course.  I guess they can not be much worse than Black Bear earlier in the year!  See you there!

GEOFFP, Welcome to this addictive sport! Did this course last year and it's mostly rolling terrain. There's no real hard climbs, but it's not a flat bike/run. Don't sweat it too much. Don't know, you might catch me on the swim if I'm in a wave ahead. That's about my swim time (or worse). All in all, this is a pretty good event. Good luck!

Welcome to BT!!  And as long as you did the training, you will be fine and can just go out there and soak up the experience.

Your main goal should be to finish and have fun.

My wave is female AG below 50 (no athenas or first timers), about 100 racers. I guess I won't be passing too many people from my wave.

Bib# 214.  I'm about 6'6" with a shaved head and red goatee racing the sprint in the Clyde category.  Looking forward to seeing you guys out there!

MDHillSlug - still researching the water temps but if this week ends the way it's forecasted to it may cool the water down considerably.  Should be really nice.

We should be racked nearby; please say hi.

I saw a race report that said last year the water temp was around 81F. I guess I should assume no wetsuit.

RD's almost always find that "cold spot" when they take the water temps to ensure a wetsuit swim.  But you never know.

I'll be bringing my speedsuit just in case though .......

Hi everyone,

I'm a Philly age-grouper just trying to pack in as many races as I think I can possibly do. I had to take last year off of racing, so I'm trying to make up for it this year.

I did a "half-lite 50" race on the 3rd, so after a couple days of recovery the next week, and then a stint at my cousin's wedding...training has lacked over the past week and a half, to say the least.

Not really going for any kind of PR on this course, mostly just there to race and have fun.

Don't have my bib number yet, but I'll be in a Philadelphia Tri Club uniform.

Hope to see / meet some of you there.

If not, have a great race everybody.

Getting psyched ... I'm ready to kick some azz!!

Although my legs are a little tired right now and I still need a chain for the TT bike and to finish putting it back together so I can get it out for a ride and make sure it works!

(Frame had craked the seatpost clamp which is bonded into the frame so even though the carbon was fine, they had to replace the whole frame).

Here I am at IMLP so you'll know who to look for on the course.  And here is my bike pre-frame replacement.

Bib #719. Think it was said that last year was 81F, which is what I recall as we didn't wear wetsuits last year. But, the days leading up to the race were really hot and humid. This August has been unusually mild and Fall-like. The closest water temp I could find was from Harve de Grace at 81.1 F. That's up from a low of 79.5 this morning. The overall 7 day trend is down but the daytime temps will be gradually warming the next few days. Still, best to be prepared in case there's a cold pool of water at North East. So, bring your wetsuit just in case.
