Expert 939 Tulsa | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman Actually some of us from around the area might be riding it that labor day sunday. We would do it monday, but we have to be at our computers to sign up for IMLouisville. I've done the race, but most of the others haven't and want to get down there to ride. |

New user 6 | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman This is my first HIM distance race. I'm used to sprint races, so I was wondering how the transition area compares to your typical sprint tri. I'm looking for how far the transition area is from the swim and how the area is organized. Also, is there anything with the transition area that differs significantly from a sprint race? Thanks |

Expert 762 Missouri | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman I am not sure on the distance from the lake to the transition area. That can vary greatly even in Sprint races. As far as the logistics of the transition area in a Half, they are the same as a sprint, really no difference. |

Also, is there anything with the transition area that differs significantly from a sprint race? Thanks I did the HIM last year and will be there again this year. The transition is seriously like 25 yards from the swim exit. There will be two columns of bikes. One on the right and one on the left. This is a pretty small event so the transition is only about 150 yards long or so. Bike in and out in the front of transition and the run is out the back. They do have changing tents that can be utilized, but are mainly for the Full distance triathletes. They had two port-a-johns in transition last year. Good bit of room in transition between bikes. Thats about all i can think of. Let me know if you want anymore specific information. |

New user 6 | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. I have some more questions... How do ya'll carry your (non-liquid) nutrition on the bike and run? Do you put on a cycling jersey and utilize the pockets? Do you use a bento box? or duct tape things to your bike? What about on the run? Or do you just eat at the aid stations? Since this is my first HIM, I'm looking for ideas of what has worked best for people. Thanks! |

I personally use a bento box for my food and put my pill box(electro tabs) in my jersey pocket. On the run i use the gels and fruits at the aid stations along with my electro pills in my jersey pocket as well. Have a great race and enjoy your first HIM experience |

New user 5 | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman too bad your not a gal. a sports bra works wonders for holding nutrition on the run. gotta fill it with something.!! lol. truly i pack something i can tolerate on the long run right down my bra, just in case i can not take in what they offer at aid stations. Gu gets old quick on a thirteen mile run. |

Veteran 266 Jackson, MS | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman Hey, this will be my first half and i just finished doing my "big" workout today. I was wondering what everyone else is up to for these next two weeks as i figure this will be the bigger weeks before taper. I'm not really following a plan but i think i am on the right path. I did 2:30 on the bike on a trainer and then drove to gym to do 10.5 miles at 7:35 pace on the treadmill alternating 0% and 0.5% incline. What does everyone else have as their big workouts? -andrew |

What are you thinking? lol i can't do more than and hour on each, even during the winter. I'm doing longer runs and bikes during the week and still doing the long run and bike on the weekend. I know thats not much help, but i don't have my plan right in front of me. I am going down probably on sunday to ride the redman course. |

New user 5 | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman all that time on the trainer and treadmill......yikes. you will be so excited to be out and about you wont even recognize you are racing!!! too bad you are not close...half the reason i get out of bed at the crack of night is to meet my training partners. however, they usually smell worse than a treadmill.. LOL i know the majority of our group is hitting their long week next week. they are doing 4-5 hour rides, 2 hour runs and concentrating on time vs. speed. personally i will probably log two more 50+bike, 2Xlong 10-13 runs and the rest is cake and maintenance. amy |

Yea, i am probably going to do one more big workout early next week and and probably keep a high overall load until the following one. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman Update: Me and one other are coming down Saturday morning (8/30) to ride the course. We'll start riding around 10 a.m. if anyone wants to join in. I did email OKCs parks and recreation to inquire about swimming in Lake Hefner prior to the race. Here is their reply: $38-145 of the OKC Municipal Code prohibits swimming or bathing in the waters of any City-owned reservation: § 38-145. Swimming, bathing and wading. (a) No person shall swim or bathe in any of the waters of any City-operated reservation, unless it is incidental to permitted water skiing, boat launching and boat retrieval or unless specifically authorized by special permit approved by the City Council. It is only by virtue of the Permit the Redman Triathlon sponsors obtain from OKC that the participants are allowed to swim in Lake Hefner during the Triathlon itself. Therefore, it will not be possible for anyone to take a practice swim as I do not believe that Permit provides for practice swims. So... no swimmy for me next weekend |

For a 70.3? Wow - that seems kind of excessive! My plan, which admittedly is the *free* plan from this site so perhaps it is not up to par with others, has the longest ride at 2.5 hours. For my first HIM I did a few 3+ hour rides but nothing over 3.5 hours. Longest run was 2 hours. The peak week on that plan was 2 weeks ago, with last week a rest week and the next two build weeks at 9 and 9.5 hours. Then taper. |

Yeah i have told them that, but they are kind of anal with sticking to what the plan says. Also a few of us that are doing the 4-5 hours are doing a full next year so we are kind of building a base for that. To bad we won't be able to meet up saturday. We are coming early sunday morning. One of the guys coming owns a bike shop, so he has to be there most saturdays. |

New user 5 | Subject: RE: Oklahoma City Redman Triathlon - Half Redman i know !!does that not seem nuts? i do not prescribe to that. my bike rides never last that long nor do my runs. i was able to complete a half just fine on much less training than that. my heavy weeks i usually log about 12 hours (two of that tends to be strength training) unless i am feeling sprite and have loads of time. oops, and my training partners smell absolutly wonderfull!!!! they smell like a warm spring dewy morning. amy |
