Definitely a first come first serve on the racks.  All the advice above is very good.  Find land marks.  Keep in mind the size.

This will be my first Oly (10th triathlon though) and I have no time goals, in reality.  I'm just doing it so I can say I did it, then it is back to Sprints for this boy.

Have fun everyone.  Safe travels.  And welcome to Chi-Town!

I guess we won't know about swim waves until we pick up packets, is that correct? Does anyone have any idea how they did it last year? I am in the "Mid Life Crisis" age group (better known as Male 40-44).

Assuming you are doing the Olympic, If I remember correct you should be someplace in the middle.  Who knows they may change it all up this year.  They seem to flip flop the M25 - 29 and M30 - 34 division around from starting as the first group to starting as the last group.

I was in M30 - 34 the last few years and two years ago I went into the water at 9:30 and last year it was 7:15.  The years I had a late start I actually dropped my stuff off in transition as soon as it opened and then went home and went back to bed for a few hours.  I didn't want to sit around waiting for my start for 5 hours.

We were last, last year but I think 2 years ago I was told that we were first.

Being last was cool. Nothing like getting to run next to Emma Snowsil .

I dont know what's better: getting to start in the front or to race (at least for a little while) with the pros. I was kinda looking forward to watching the pros finish for once....

Well. If you start early enough and are fast enough, you get to watch them finish. I started about 90 minutes AHEAD of them last year and barely came in in front of them. I really honestly wish I would've been able to follow some sweet Snowsil pace booty across the finish line, but it wasn't meant to be.

Good luck to everyone!!  Enjoy the city!!

For all you out-of-towners... pm me if you have any questions on directions, places to go, etc... I would be more than happy to help you out

Ditto. I don't live too far from the venue (like three blocks) so if you stub a toe or need something, call PigFinn.

Heh.  Yeah.  I'm gonna be in that boat too.  Maybe I'll get to see some good pace booty and she will pull me to the finish line.

Pray for me Tony.

The wife and I will be at the expo on Friday as well. We're driving up that morning from Memphis...hoping to hit the expo around 4-5pm.

Last year was my first tri and I loved it. I can't wait til this weekend!!!

Did everyone notice that they changed the run course a little from last year?? No running behind the aquarium.

I am not going to be there too late. I have to be up at 5 am the next morning for my own race, and its a race I can not miss.

So much to do and so little time.

Yep, that area is under construction.  They are building a tunnel to go under the road on the south side of the Shedd.  It's supposed to be done by end of year.  It will be nice when it's done.  No more waiting for cars or risking your life getting run down when crossing the street over there.

They got EVERYTHING you can possibly think of involving triathlon at this expo.  By far the biggest I've seen.   Except for the Chicago marathon, which is a different um sport.

Sorry, I will not be there.  Logistics are too much, and I live here.

I'm flying in on Thursday.....cousin picking me up.....eating.....Bears game.....and a night out on the town (figure that's far enough out to not get too dehydrated).

Friday is bike/run/swim day because I haven't trained this week.....Expo in the afternoon......

Saturday is the 'do nothing day', except carb up and take as few steps as possible.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there. If you see anyone in a Texas Longhorn shirt at teh Expo just say 'Brad?'.....if someone else has a Longhorn shirt on it'll be a funny story for you (not for them) but it would be a good conversation starter and a way to tell someone about BT.

Later y'all!

-brad

Ok, dumb question about the "best" place to be in the transition area - do we prefer to rack as close to the swim out as possible? Or close to the transition exit? Or just on the end of our designated racks... So confused.

They should have CO2 there...but I remember them saying during the course talks last year, you can't change a tire on course since we're on Lake Shore Drive. There is nowhere to pull off.
