Gonna be fun. If you think about it, BT will represent 5% of the field

Does anyone know if the lake is filled with weeds again?  I read some RR's from last year mentioning this.

Filled with weeds sounds like a bit of an overstatement to me. If I remember correctly, there might have been some at the swim start, but nothing that seemed to be of great significance. Perhaps others remember otherwise?

Agreed. There was hyrdilla in the shallow water at the start. It can a little disconcerting because it's kind of pointy. Once you got out to the start line, though, it was gone.

They introduced carp into Lake Austin to fight the hyrdilla and that's had a great impact. I don't know if they've done the same for Decker. In any case, it's not an issue once you start the race.

Thanks for the information and the clarification.  I meant to ask about the swim start and not generalize that the whole lake was full of weeds.

We also may not start at the boat ramp. There are a few other options. If I can find a spot that doesn't have the hydrilla, we'll just bring in a truckload of beach sand and drop it, for the swim start. We do the same thing for the swim finish, and it works really well

Why is nobody mentioning the laser-wielding sharks they introduced to fight the carp that acquired a taste for human flesh?

Anyone know if there is a shuttle or anything from the host hotel on race morning?    I'll have a rental car, but I was going to leave it with my wife.

Hey Tom,

I have not heard anything but I am sure Keith will chime in here soon.  Regardless, I am sure we will have to rack on Saturday an there are probably plenty of BT'ers who would give you a ride in the morning.

I'm curious to see how they handle the entrance and parking this year.  Last year seemed pretty chaotic.  Carpooling and/or shuttle buses would be the way to go.

How about hotels - any rooms at the inns?

There aren't shuttle buses from the host hotel to the race site, but you can take a taxi pretty easily.

All parking will be at the Travis County Expo Center (about .75 mile away). HUGE place to park. Then, we'll have shuttle buses taking you to the race site. Should make things much easier to get into the park in the AM.

Buses begin at 5 AM, with transition opening at 5:30 AM.
Buses will run continuously throughout the day, so spectators that don't come in the morning will have an easy time getting to the park by taking the bus from Expo Center....

Should work pretty slick

So no parking at the site this year?

nope, no parking at the race site this year. It was too chaotic in the AM, and then we had a ton of problems with athletes who had finished their race trying to leave. Of course, the run course goes through the parking area, and we had cars driving in the run course.

Trust me, it'll be easy. You'll rack your bike on Sat, and then just park at the Expo on race morning. Cafe Sanora will be at the bus depot with free coffee, and then just hop on the shuttle bus.

You're more than welcome to walk to the race site, too. It's only .75 miles....

No worries, I just wanted to make sure before I told my friends/family about the change.

we have ALOT more buses this year, and they'll be running from 5 AM-5PM. Last year, we stopped them during the day, figuring people wouldn't use them during the race. There were quite a few spectators that would have used them....So, we'll have them running all day, but there are 6 buses at 5 AM, through the beginning of the race. Then, 2 all day, until end of race, then more

Since this is now an official M-Dot race, are there going to be other things you see in the IMs like transition bags, special needs bags, etc. that we need to bring in on Saturday as well? Is it going to be a 'clean' transition area?

The Danskin race does the same setup in the same race spot and it works well with the buses.  Just make sure, as an athlete, that you show up in time.  You wouldn't believe how many racers were on the buses AFTER the first wave had already been scheduled to start!

Might be a dumb question, but how do we get our bikes from transition to our cars at the end of the day?    Just walk them back to the expo center?  Also, when do the tailgating spots "close"?  For those of us who will likely take the entire 8 hours on the course (gotta get your money's worth) it doesn't leave much time to cool down, get to the tailgate, eat, etc. if the buses stop running at 5 pm.

Last year the walk was about 25 minutes to the parking area.

25 minutes???????did you crawl????

It's only .75 miles from the race site.

For the other question...it's not a "clean" transition. You can put all of your stuff at your bike rack space. Your space is marked for you.

Also, we're going to move the swim start from the boat ramp, to another area, free of hydrilla.

Really nice, and sandy, and NOT SLIPPERY....

GONNA ROCK!!!!!!!

How many waves are you planning on having/how long do you expect it to take to get everyone in the water?
