I am in a tent in Salina, KS.

Halfway there!

And it had better not be wetsuit legal...I realized an hour outside of Rapid that I had forgotten mine.

Didn't you say wetsuits are the devil?

They are.  But if everyone else is wearing one I'll wear it.  But I'd rather not.

It's a conspiracy.  I swam in that water today and it's definitely more than 78....

According to Paul's father in law, lake temp was just under 77.something when they measured today. With the wind blowing like it was this evening, it's going to cool off even more over night.

Looks like they had a short swim. Looking off a guy I train with/know pretty well. He came in 21min for the swim. Obviously short, I think you could add 5min+ to his time and get about what he should of swam. I'll ask him what he thinks when I see him.

Not sure, but the bike could of been short also? Though not as much as the swim is. The same guy(and a few others) just seemed a bit fast. Not out of the question fast, could of had a really great day sort of time, but a bit questionable.

The swim was definitely short. My cycle computer showed just a bit long (which it tends to) and someone else's GPS showed about a tenth or 2 short for the bike. So it may have been short, but it couldn't have been much. It was just fast out there.

I've heard pros estimate that swim course was ~150 meters short. That's what it felt like based on my swim time. Great race overall!

I've heard from 150-300m...we were moving with the current too for the long leg, so who knows.  My GPS had the bike right on for the distance.  It was just fast if you did it right.  The run was right on, though more hilly than I had expected I think...

GREAT JOB ALL! WOOHOO!

My garmin had the following.

Swim roughly 1.04 miles or 257.49 meters short.
Bike 55.96 miles
Run 13.12 miles

I probably didn't swim real straight so the swim course could have been off by a little more.

Damn, and I thought I was just that fast....

The guy next to me in T1 commented to me about the short swim...we were both sub 30min.

I hit 36 minutes, which is a ridiculous 1.2 mile time for me. Best case, I was hoping for 40 minutes(given my crappy sighting).

I got 55.99 on the bike, and 13.0 on the run.

Not sure how we could be swimming with the current since the dam was behind us. I'm not sure how much movement there is in that lake anyway.

Now, we definitely were swimming with the wind. Which, now that I think about it, is probably what you meant. Sorry.

Edit: And 300 meters short is good. If it was that, then I still legitimately went under 5 hours. Anymore than that, though, and it's got an asterisk next to it.

According to the race documentation, the course is 1.2 miles (2112 yards).  It's an officially sanctioned race course, so I am going to take the swim PR and call it a day!

Great job everyone!  The wind was tough on some sections and it got hot in the afternoon.  Plus, I had a cramp from eating too much brisket.

Speaking of brisket. You weren't around when Carey and I took off. Let me know the next time you're headed to Pure and I'll meet you there to give you some cash for the grub.

Maybe no "current" in the lake, but with that many people in the water, it was about impossible not to be dragged along by the flow.  I think the breeze and overcast skies really helped and contributed to some pretty fast bike splits, too.

Even with the short swim, I felt great in the water and I know that I could have easily gone another 6 - 8 minutes, which still puts me under my goal time of 6:30.  Whoo hoo!

I have heard a lot of swim courses are off ... why does this happen (since it is a sanctioned event)?

that official "gaarryy" therory is ... the more pro's racing the shorter the swim course..

It could be anything ,, maybe the wind was blowing moer than they thought or it changed directions effecting the  anchor lines.   etc

My teammate just pointed out that Longhorn 70.3 is a qualifier for 2009 Halfmax national championship. It appears that top 33% of each AG qualify (Option One).

Austin->OKC road trip in September 2009!

I had just assumed that once it became a 70.3 event and a Clearwater qualifier, that it would no longer also qualify people for HalfMax.  That's cool to know.

Same here.  I figured it wouldn't be a Halfmax qualifier any longer.  Cool.  Might have to plan that into next year if it doesn't coincide with Longhorn.

Longhorn will be October 18th next year. Austin City Limits Music Fest is moving to Oct 2-4, so we're being forced to move....unless you wanna pay $350 for a hotel room, have no porta potties, fences, or tents

Definitely increases the likelihood of it being wetsuit legal again, and cooler.....I'd actually wanted to move it later in the month, so this is a good excuse to do this....
