Pre-race routine:

Drove up to Oshkosh wondering what kind of day Id have. My legs have been aching all week (I guess thats part of IM training:)), and after just swimming Saturday.. only 2.65 miles... they felt a little better. I had no taper really either. My goal for this race was to push myself once. I have been so stuck in that IM zone. I wanted my legs to hurt MORE!!:)
Was a little worried about flatting again too. I decided if I got a flat racing today I wasnt using those wheels for IM.
Event warmup:

No time... did a quick swim- maybe 30 yds just to get a feel for the water. It was choppy. I suck at swimming and choppy water doesnt help me.... pray for a smooth lake in Madison.
Also saw that a girl from around here that is super fast AND in my AG was racing..... ugh, almost made me want to swtch to the sprint. Decided Id at least try to finish close to her. She was a couple waves ahead of me though.

Comments:

Not a great swim.... the way out I found myslef way to the right. When I swim "right" I swim staright.. you know, good pull, elbows up, kick.... when I am just fighting to not drink the water I swim to the right. so finally got back on track and had decent swim back in- it was an out and back.
Whenever I have an OWS I get really worried about IM.... I guess I justr need to get through it and not use a ton of energy.
What would you do differently?:

swim straight- maybe spot a little more at first?

Wetsuit came off good- pretty quick- OK T1. Bike mount wasnt great but not bad.
What would you do differently?:

Comments:

Not at all happy with my bike split. My legs felt every pedal stroke- and it hurt. I think the hill repeats I did Wednesday did not help this ride. Im not usually such a wuss, but damn. Guess Im not used to pushing on the bike. Youd think thsoe zillions of bike miles I ve put on this summer would make me a little faster?? I was more then 1 mph slower then last year. I did only have one girl pass me and then I caught her in the last 3 miles....so thats good I guess.
There was a headwind- which Im no good in either.
I only dranka bout 1/2 bottle of GE and maybe 1/2 bottle of water- I had to pee and didnt want to have to go more.
What would you do differently?:

dunno- really not sure what is up with my bike speed this year :( NEXT time I train for IM.. I am doing a lot more speed sessions.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

How can my T2 be slower then my T1.... and this isnt the firat time that has happened.
I ahve a red TriWi transition mat...which helps a lot to find your spot on the bike rack. I see it and run to it, rack my bike and look down and am like- what the he11...those arent my running shoes! Who took my shoes and put these here?? Then I look downabout three spots and see MY red Tri Wi mat.... uh oh- so I runover there and get my shoes on. Meanwhile- Bob was working transition and comes over and says "Miss- why is your bike over there and your stuff is over here??" Im like- can you moce it pkease. he did. So grabbed my visor (asked if it was on crooked- cuz it always is.... do you think there is a mirror in transition in Madison??... I am on camera you know ;) and race belt and was off. Should have grabbed a gel too.
What would you do differently?:

go to the right spot :)
Run

Comments:

Damn nice run for me. I almost always felt like I could have gone a little harder but just didnt know ifit would last so- I kept it here. I didnt wear my garmin today- good thing or I probaly would have slowed down :) Legs felt way better running then biking but they have felt better. Kind of uneventful run really. The speedy girl passed me atlike mile 2 and I figured as long as I couyld keep her in my sights- Id actually beat her.. I did :) Kind of like my very own Charels Benson. Didnt drink or gel on the run should have but just didnt want to slow down. Had a nice kick at the end too:)
What would you do differently?:

Probaly not much- maybe carry a water bottle if I am going to be too stubborn to get water.
Post race
Warm down:

I was tired for about 40 seconds then felt fine :) Got my results and was glad to be 2cnd- I was 1st last year but am in a tougher AG this year. Wish I was a little faster though. Id love to go low 2:30s in an Olympic.
cool seeing all the Donkey dudes. You guys are the best:)
Had to get home to get another 62 miles in:)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Easy- I am in peak weeks for IM training- no time to taper!!

Event comments:

Good race, good friends.

Great race!  Congrats and keep your eye on the prize (IM).  Who cares about PR-ing a OLY bike split.  That's like catching a perch when you're fishing for sharks.

Hey, fast momma - what's going on at these races?  You getting tire blowouts at SOR, and now "where's my stuff" moments.  Duuuuuuuude!

But, claiming a prize makes up for it.  Nice job!

Great race and congrats on the HW.  Especially, when you consider no taper.  And by my calculations, you are in the low 2:30s, b/c most olympic bikes are 24.85 miles.  That extra 3 miles adds about 10'.  And again, that is without a taper.

IMWI is going to be a blast.

Great race report.  Sorry to hear your legs weren't lovin' ya, but sounds like you just told 'em to shut up and kept pluggin' along.  Great job.  Oh, and what will be your next IM after Moo that you were referring to?

Smoking great job out there! Awesome 10k at the end--considering you did that on no taper in mid-IM training--you did phenomenal! Congrats!

Another great Race! I think that wind was stronger than it seemed. You looked really strong on the run when I saw you. (you always do) Congrats on keeping your visor on straight. Now on to the big one. You are going to do awesome. Great to see you as always.
