Premier Event Management
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 12s
Overall Rank = 214/1375
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 31/95
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, showered, ate a banana, yogurt, cliff bar, and a packet of GU, loaded up the car and headed to the venue. Assembled both bikes, walked the couple blocks to the race.
Event warmup:

Swam 100m just to wake up my back and neck and to make sure everything was feeling good. The injury from July seems to be completely gone now.
Swim
  • 08m 50s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

There is no breakout for age group rankings for individual splits.
Only real problems during the swim were: 1) Course gets too shallow at inner point of the M, so you have to run around the pylon instead of swimming. 2)A lane divider broke on the last leg of the M and that allowed people to swim the wrong direction onto the course.
What would you do differently?:

Build some more strength and technique so I can get faster and not have to start in the big group of people at 8:00min that never breaks up.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Ok, with 1375 people this transition area was huge, and I was in the rack about as far away from bike in and out as you could get. I forgot to line my crank up right, so instead of having the left pedal in the 9 o'clock position it was at 3, so I had to mess around with it to get going.
What would you do differently?:

Set up bike properly in transition.
Bike
  • 39m 22s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.94 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was a bit of a cluster. So many people in a small area. I was probably lucky to not get a penalty for riding in the left hand side of the lane. This is another place where a faster swim would help, I'd get to the bike before all the people on mountain bikes (no offense to those on mountain bikes).
What would you do differently?:

Push harder? I don't know, the race felt good, but it seemed like I should have been faster than that. The new set-up worked really well though, and I'm not in any pain as I type this report 24hrs later.
Transition 2
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Socks got hung up a bit when I tried to roll them on. Other than that, things went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Some day I want to get some running shoes I can use sockless.
Run
  • 23m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

PR, but roughly 3 minutes. The run just felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I'm kind of disappointed that there is no option for "great" in the drop-down box for overall run here. I mean, this run couldn't have gone much better.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to go get my camera out of the trans area so that I could head back and take some pictures of my friend Kristen as she finished, but by the time I found someone who would go get my camera out of my bag (the trans area was closed due to the ongoing race) she was done. I did find some nice ladies on a relay team to get my camera, though.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much, this was definitely a good race for me.

Event comments:

Ok, I'm not trying to rip on this race at all...but if you have 1375 Registered participants you NEED to have more than one food line. I didn't even bother trying to get food, since it probably would have taken longer to get something there than to pack up after the race and drive off.

Other than that, great race, good venue for the race.

Pictures are post race of my friend Kristen and I, and of the broken lane line from the swim.

Nice run!!!!  Dude.  Seriously.  Very nice run indeed.  Congratulations on a nice race considering how crowded it was.

Awesome run!  I wore the EXACT same Zoot tri suit as your friend.
