I don't want a repeat of last years weather. I wasn't there but my buddy has horror stories about his bike over the causeway with 15+ mph winds. Horror stories - Oh...do tell! Were bikes flying off into the water? Now that would make for an interesting race - unless, of course YOU were the one flying off into the water. haha... nothing THAT crazy... just think of it like this: BIKE----East @ 21mph----> *NOT FUN ZONE* <----West @ 20mph----WINDS

Member 53 Melbourne, FL | Subject: RE: Health First Oly/Sprint Oct 5th in Melbourne Got my temp tattoos today and I'll be sporting them Sunday (probably on both shoulders). Have a good tapering week everyone and I'll see you all there. |

Extreme Veteran 307 | Subject: RE: Health First Oly/Sprint Oct 5th in Melbourne I am also a proud owner of BT temp tattoos. I'll have one on each shoulder. Anyone know how they're starting & ending the swim? We were discussing it the other weekend when we were all nursing our feet after climbing out on the rocks. I'm sure there's a plan.
Who's going to the after-party? |

Pro 6582 Melbourne FL | Subject: RE: Health First Oly/Sprint Oct 5th in Melbourne The last 2 years the swim started and ended near the south side of the building that is fenced in next to the library. They should have a wooden plank thing and carpet for the swimmers to walk up onto with helpers there. The building was fenced in last year too and they got permission from the building owner to open it up. So if it is the same this year, you'll come out of the water near the south end of the building run up and around it through the parking lot to the library parking lot where the Transition is located. If you have tender feet you may want to ditch a pair of sandals/shoes over that way. Oh, the T1 mat has also been located about 5' from when you get out of the water, so the swim time has not included the long run from the shore to the transition area. But who knows what this year has in store with the changes already made to the run course! I wont have tatoos but will have "BT" written on each shoulder by the numbers.

Master 1201 Indian Harbour Beach, Florida | Subject: RE: Health First Oly/Sprint Oct 5th in Melbourne I think it stinks that they changed the run course, going over the bridge was always half the fun! I'm volunteering at the race this year instead of racing it. I'll keep my eye peeled for the BT tattoos! |

SO FREAKIN EXCITED for it you have no idea. I also heard there are speed bumps at the top of the bridges, I used to live in Melbourne but I dont remember the speed bumps at the top. Then again I would never take pineda causeway mostly just the Melbourne one to get to the beach. Looking forward to it, Brian |

However, on Pineda causeway there are those rumble strips on the shoulder side of the white line to be aware of. To all, be aware when approaching the South Patrick and Eau Gallie intersection and there was construction going on last week at the corner and they were digging up the old gas station entrance and parking lot. They were piling up debris in the turn lane. Have a great time and race! |

Expert 764 | Subject: RE: Health First Oly/Sprint Oct 5th in Melbourne Whew...well, that was a tough race. I did the olympic, and the wind and the causeway hills were a brutal combination! I even lost my water bottle on the bike after only taking 2 sips! Needless to say, I totally bonked on the run. I have to say it was a well put-together race, though! I had a great time and the volunteers were fantastic! |

Because I definitely saw a bottle on the way over Pineda and thought "sucks for that person". You're right, the headwind we got going over Pineda were BRUTAL to say the least. I actually kept my pace slow on US1 and Pineda, then picked up the pace on S Patrick. My race report will probably include a little tid bit about getting a good knock in the face before the first buoy. Good race overall. |

What's even crazier is when I read your race report, you saw the same thing I did going over Pineda: A bunch of bikers were staying in high gear as they were coming up to the causeway and trying to pump it out standing up. Being a local I dropped down a few gears, stayed in my seat and kept my cadence up. Needless to say this helped out a lot and I ended up passing some of those riders on S. Patrick who had pushed too hard on Pineda. |

Master 1201 Indian Harbour Beach, Florida | Subject: RE: Health First Oly/Sprint Oct 5th in Melbourne Donto, don't know how I missed you at the finish line, I was working the water table on the left, and the area got crowded with people so maybe that's how I missed you. I did talk to a fella with a BT tattoo on his shoulder before the swim started, maybe that was one of you guys? This nice fella had a "brush cut" type hair style. At least the overcast weather kept the day cool for ya'll. I enjoyed volunteering, it was a lot of fun, but not as much fun as racing! |
