Total Time = 2h 22m 31s
Overall Rank = 119/428
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 26/49
Pre-race routine:

The usual breakfast and water/sports drink combination.

Banana Gu 10 minutes before start.
Event warmup:

A lot of it was done yesterday. i did ride to the race site though.
Swim
  • 23m 16s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 33s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was being lazy and was following and not self navigating. Cost me when the group realised they were heading the wrong buoy. No one to blame but myself. The long 500m section across the back felt good and i opend up.
What would you do differently?:

Navigate myself as well.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The Transision area was really rough. made running fast very hard on bare feet.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 24s
  • 40 kms
  • 35.09 km/hr
Comments:

There was a LOT of drafting going on. 3 DQ's in my age group alone. A lot of packs forming. I sat 6-7m of the back of one pack that was riding a little slower than i wanted to go, but after 3 attempts i found myself unable to ride away from them.
What would you do differently?:

Concentrate on my own race and not those around me riding in big packs like a pro cycling peleton.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

The Transision area was really rough. made running fast very hard on bare feet.
Run
  • 50m 51s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 05s  min/km
Comments:

Was running well through 5k ans was looking at 47ish until i just hit the wall, and struggled in the last 5k. I think two races in 7 days finally killed me at 5k into the run.

I'm not the strongest runner normally anyway but was disappointed with today's effort.

WOW! You did really well - I would be thrilled to perform anywhere near as well as you!
Don't be disappointed.
What happens now? What other races do you have planned?

Hey, Thanks for the comments. Yeah i was happy to do that one week after canberra! I hit the wall 5ks earlier than i was hoping! And again i finished a few places outside the world qualifying points

Whats next on the agenda?? Well on the 27th i am doing my first long course race. Doing the Australian Long Course Championships for something different. Thats going to be real interesting.

Then the next race after that will be the Australian Champs in Geelong. I'll also go to our clubs ironman training weekend which is a solid week of training up in jindabyne in the snowys the week before Aust Champs, so i won't be expecting much in Geelong. Mainly along for the road trip with the others from the club.

Then i am probably done for the summer. I was going to go to NZ Xterra Champs, but i am heading to Canada later in the year on a working holiday so i need to start saving.

Whats planned on your race calendar?

Congratulations, way to go Aaron - you're rocking - wish I could swim as fast as you [I'm going to start working on a bit of speed this winter]. Guess you'll be hard into preps for the Xterra - my nephew was in some 24 hour mountain bike team event in Rotorua last weekend - much to my sister's horror - he had a plate in his leg last year and the doctors have told him if he has another accident like the last one he might need the leg amputated - but you can't keep a good mountain biker down! Train hard, train safe. Cheers. Susan.

Hey Suzy,

How's things. Yeah i am always complaining about the fact the swim isn't longer! It's my strongest leg, whcih is funny as i never really did any swimming until i took up triathlon. I used to complain about 50m being a long way. However i'm certainly not up to the distances you swim. 5.6 last week i see. thats huge!!!

It looks like i'm going to have to miss Rotorua this year. I am diverting all my funds into a trip i am taking to Canada for a year leaving in August. So after the Australian Champs in March, my next race will probably be the Vancouver Triathlon in September.

Anyway i hope all is going well.

Aaron
