That was the most spectacular race/finish I have ever seen in swimming.  0.01 beetween gold and silver?  Wow!  I was amazed to see that he won as it really looked like he took 2nd.  We had it recorded on the DVR so we played it back in slo-mo over and over and even at that, it's hard to see.  That he took the extra stroke was just awesome and speaks volumes....it's as if he sensed what he needed to do and did it.  Unbelievable!

That was pretty incredible for sure! I wonder what the outcome would have been before the digital touch pad technology. It just goes to show that every fraction of every second counts. I guess this is a case where Phelps' incredible arm span was also an advantage. It's been quite a lot of fun watching him swim.

That was a great lesson on how TO and NOT TO finish a race! Phelps is absolutely amazing!! After seeing it over frame by frame there was no question that he out finished the whiner Cavic!

THAT, my friends, was "good for swimming"!!

Actually BOTH finishes were less then perfect/great----they both had the choice between kicking it into the wall or half stroking....looks like Phelps made the better choice this time...amazing finish no matter how you look at it!

As a former swimmer, what really makes me happy is that I went to a bar to watch the race and everyone stopped in their tracks to watch SWIMMING. Most people make fun of me for wanting to watch it on tv, here they were screaming and clapping, very cool (thank you mr. phelps).

I don't understand....swimming hardly seems "off topic" for triathlons.

PLEASE PUT SPOLIER IN THE TITLE OR DON'T POST RESULTS....

Yeah i took my chance, but didn't think someone would actually post the results of the 8th race.

On the west coast, tape delayed

Damn, I am sorry Chris.  It never even occured to me that there would be a delay on the west coast.  My sincere appology.

I'm not arguing or being a jerk, just pointing out that this is specifically about Michael Phelps winning his 7th gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, and not about a triathlon or training or swimming tips about triathlon swimming training.  COJ had a thread about that race and was discussed.  I don't know if you frequent COJ, thus why I'm referring.  But I digress.
