Pre-race routine:

Woke at 5am and was packed up and in car by 6:30am (biggest challenge was waking daughter!!) Ate a bowl of porridge and a banana for breaky. Arrived at ferries and didn't have to wait long before arrived at island.

Comments:

Went out strong and took the lead. Water was cool but calm so easy to breath. Got a little crowded rounding first buoy. Rolled on back for 200m straight stretch and did back stroke - had a good pace and was in the top three. Rounded second buoy and headed towards the finish line but didn't sight enough. Ended up swimming *way* off course. Made way towards finish line. Was third swimmer out of the water in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Comments:

Run from the lake to the transition area was on wood plank walkway in barefeet so I walked it. *OF COURSE* my wetsuit got stuck on my ankles. Wasted time.
What would you do differently?:

Run next time... practice getting wet suit off faster

Kept a good pace but something was wrong with my gear shifts. I knew this walking into the race but didn't get a chance to have them looked at. I think I did as best I could considering my equipment.

Invest in a proper bike

Comments:

Really had to pee and wasted time debating whether I should squat and go or hold it. Opted for holding it. Also played with hair as it was rats nest and wouldn't fit into clip.
What would you do differently?:

Pee in the water next time ;)

Wore Garmin to ensure I was running at a normal pace. Felt good. Kept chanting "you can do it - you can do it" and so I did!

Event comments:

This was only my second race so what do I know? It was good. Ferry to mainland was an hour late - that was a pain in the butt.
