what's up peeps?

I know this has been asked in the main forum but I thought I'd ask it here for the AZ crowd. I looked on NBC's web site and it doesn't look like NBC (channel 12) is showing the triathlon and that it will only be available online. Is that correct?

That is correct. If an American happens to win it or come in the top three there is a possibility that they would show some highlights like they did with the Women's Time Trial Race which an American won. Otherwise you are probably stuck watching it online. I belive that you can watch it in full online if you happen to miss it the first time.

Now if you had satelite and got CBC from Canada you would be able to see it live. They have shown every major even live, coast-to-coast, including this mornings 100m race that we have to wait until 9:30pm tonight to see on NBC.

Well that kind of sucks but I don't mind watching it online. Thanks for the confirmation!

So J and I are watching and this just annoys me that they can draft. It basically makes it a 10K race. If you can basically swim similar to the lead group, hang in the draft then all that really matters is your run. Why can they draft??? I really don't think this is a good representation of the best triathlete.

Don't read if you plan on watching at some point:

I do love Snowsill and I am stoked she won, was bummed that Bennett pooped out on run but still made a nice comeback to 4th!!!

I think drafting is a mixed bag.

It makes the swim more important. If you don't come out of the water with that lead
pack, you're done.

It makes the swim less important, because crushing the competition by a minute or
two out of the water gains you nothing because the lead pack will swallow you up.

It makes the biking much more tactical. I'm also suprised to see that there weren't
countries using team tactics.

It emphasizes the run. Everyone in contention is going to come off the bike at
the same time.

That being said, Snowsill just crushed them all on the run. That was impressive.

I don't think drafting is a mixed bag. It sucks. What sucks more though is that they televised BADMITON but not triathlon. I could be wrong, but WAY more people participate in the sport of triathlon than badmiton in this country.

I agree, and that's why drafting sucks. An Oly is pretty much a long sprint for these people. Catching up to a pack isn't really going to happen.

/agreed, reason #2 drafting sucks.

It emphasizes the run. Everyone in contention is going to come off the bike at
the same time.

Yep. reason #3

IMO, the reason they allow drafting is to keep judges from screwing someone, like they do in most judged events.

Its just that triathlon is KNOWN to be an individual sport, and if that is the case why is it not so in the Olympics? It makes the bike portion pretty muc worthless so if you are known as a VERY strong biker its just a HUGE wash in the Olympic tri due to drafting.

Here's what we came up with...

- There should be SPRINT bonuses a' la road racing in the Olympic triathlon. That would keep people from just hanging in the draft like you saw some people doing. If they want to treat it like a road race, add some of the fun road racing elements to it! Then those bonuses get added to your run time! HA!

OR better yet - don't have a SIX loop bike course and don't allow drafting.

Not only is drafting legal in many of the european races - rabbits are allowed (those that work you into the front and dnf as they were only there to help your bike.

See commonwealth games, World Championships, in additon to Olymip games and World cup races.
