Pre-race routine:

Stayed at friend's place to save time on the drive (by 45 minutes). Up at 4:30-protein shake coffee and oatmeal. Dressed and out the door by 5:15. Nice to have someone organized and ready to go and race with. Arrived at 6:00 and got a great parking space and choice in transition. The Tri-Sition area crew was there and all had our jerseys on. The jerseys look pretty cool. Talked to Kelly and Alicia.
Event warmup:

After transition setup, went on a little warm up jog with D. and stretched. Waited for quite a while with D until his start then waited some more for my swim start but was right next to Alicia and the time went quickly.
Swim
  • 11m 55s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 59s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Go Faster
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Not the quickest transition but I skipped the socks this time and had no problems.
Bike
  • 34m 57s
  • 9.16 miles
  • 15.72 mile/hr
Comments:

I was really focused on trying to improve my run speed and didn't want to use up my legs. After doing the 40mi bike Sunday then the two mile run/walk, I see that I can ride harder.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder. Do speed work 1x per week
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Fairly average transition. I have not practiced this at all.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice transitions.
Run
  • 23m 11s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

The garmin really helped me to make sure that I was on pace.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to increase run volume and do an intensity wo 1x per week.
Post race
Warm down:

This was the best post race. Not because of the event organization, but because of the people I was with. I'm starting to know quite a few people in the tri community here in SA. D's coach was there and some of her athletes (she is a whale trainer at Sea World)as well as several of the Tri-sition Area team and the beginnings of the Tri-Sition Area club. Everyone seemed to have a great race. Kelly was 3rd, Alicia 2nd and Dave 3rd in their respective AG.
Stretched well and had a great brunch at Taco Garage.
I'm looking forward to getting some hardware. I'm starting to feel like the bridesmaid.....always 4th, just missing out on the medals.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am still learning how hard I can stress my body and have it continue to perform at an increasing level of intensity. It will simply take time and practice.

Event comments:

Fun race!

I felt good about the swim, but I really think it was faster than this. I passed three people and best of all I felt comfortable. I will push harder in the future. I can push harder in the sprints than I have been.

YEA!!!! I've improved my time and did sub 10 minute miles for this short run. I'm moving up the goal to do sub 10 on a 5k.
Course: This was a nice run. It was on a cement path through the park with a part of it on dirt trail. I wish that these mini sprint tris would make the run a 5k.

Great report. Pool swim sounds interesting and GOOD JOB on that run, sub 10 min miles. I agree with your statement: "I am still learning how hard I can stress my body and have it continue to perform at an increasing level of intensity. It will simply take time and practice."

Thanks for taking the time to check out my albums! :-)

This sounds like a really great race to have gotten some nice insight into how well you're performing, especialy at this point in your season.  It does sound like a fun race.  Under 12 minutes for 400 yards?  I'm in awe...
