Swim
Comments: This was my first ocean swim in a tri. I had practiced in the water earlier in the week but there were practically no waves. Getting through the surf and adjusting to the salt water were difficult but once I got through the breaking waves I did ok. We (myself and a few other racers) saw a "fin" in the water while walking to the start line but the locals I was with were pretty sure it was a dolphin (I'll believe that as I know there are tiger sharks in the water there) What would you do differently?: Practice getting through the waves more Transition 1
Comments: Had to take a minute to drink and get the salt water taste out of my mouth (ICK, don't like salt to begin with). Otherwise as planned What would you do differently?: ? Bike
Comments: Riding in the left lane with cars on the right took some getting used to, but it was nice not to worry about all the driveways. PLENTY of marshals/police at intersections directing traffic and turns. VERY flat course, don't think I changed gears more than 5 times total. A nice familiar course as it goes past my inlaws street (where my husband, son and mother in law were cheering me on!) What would you do differently?: Drink more. Stomach ws quesy from the salt water. Hadn't planned on that. Tried to drink but I don't think I drank enough for how hot it was. Transition 2
Run
Comments: The RD apologized for "Mother Nature" not cooperating and that the sand was so soft. It was SOFT! I almost took off my socks and shoes to run (others did). It made the run very difficult. It was hot, I was tired and I hadn't drank enough. Those factors combined with the soft sand made it not too much fun for me. What would you do differently?: Drink more on the bike, bring my own fluids for the run. Post race
Warm down: Warm-down? Finished just in time for the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: Unknowns. The ocean swim was a first and I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked to have been. Event comments: A wonderfully organized race considering it is the first year they have been doing them. I am thrilled to have one so close to my inlaws and even happier that it is well run, plenty of support and a great race. I would recommend you give it a "tri" Last updated: 2008-08-19 12:00 AM
