Elite 2844 Reston VA | Subject: RE: Patriot's Half Fm the Setup website: 9/4/08 - Tropical Storm Hanna Update We know some of you are coming in from a great distance and we regret that we cannot give you a concrete answer at this point. But we don't want to get to Saturday morning with scattered showers and a great day for racing cancelled. So, bear with us as we manage the situation and check back tomorrow at noon. Note: Currently, it looks like Sunday's Sprint and International events will not be affected. |

Master 1826 | Subject: RE: Patriot's Half From Setup... So, should we decide to go have to modify or cancel the event on Saturday, you will know as soon as we know. We can delay this thing for only so long on Saturday and we cannot move it to Sunday or another weekend.
so everyone cross your figures that Hanna starts moving at about 50mph and starts rolling east |

so everyone cross your figures that Hanna starts moving at about 50mph and starts rolling east I guess it could be possible that they would start the race later in the day then? I guess we will find out tomorrow at 12, maybe |

I'm picking up gatorade and water thinking "I need to hydrate for Saturday" LOL! Hurricane, schmurricane. I sooooo badly want to race this thing. But not in 40-60 mph winds. Ummmm... no. |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Patriot's Half Looking at the projected path this morning, it seems the storm has stalled. We're still going to get wet if they have the race, but the center of the storm isn't supposed to reach VA until saturday night. Anyway - it's a much better outlook in my opinion: |

Since there are only four of us, I haven't made a reservation... plan to just show up as I doubt this is a big tourist weekend for them with people boarding up their windows. My cell is 443-854-3049 if for any reason anyone wants to get in touch. Josh |

Although it's not quite Saturday night, it is Saturday at 2 PM. But, still better than what we were seeing yesterday. |

Sneaky Slow 8694 Herndon, VA, | Subject: Patriot's Half Canceled 9/5/08 - Patriots Half - Cancelled due to Hurricane Hanna We deeply regret to announce that the Patriots Half scheduled for Saturday morning at 7AM has been cancelled due to Hurricane Hanna. All athletes currently registered for this event will receive a 50% credit for the 2008 Patriots Half. The Patriots Sprint and International will go on as scheduled for Sunday exactly one hour later. Sprint starts at 8AM, International Starts at 9AM. This just gives us an extra hour of daylight to take care of any hazards on the course. |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Patriot's Half FCUK!!!!!! I'm going to be doing a 1.2 mile pool swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run locally tomorrow, as I just don't have any other options and I want an "official" time that reflects my efforts. Heck, maybe I should just go do it right now as it's a LOT nicer out now than it will be tomorrow morning. |

Extreme Veteran 981 Maryland | Subject: RE: Patriot's Half At least they aren't modifying the course to where it's not a half. I prefer a cancellation over a swim/run, bike/run, etc. Not worth travelling for that. Josh, how are you doing a half training session in Odenton? There is a BATC tri workout on Sunday at 0900 in the northeast Baltimore area. I went to one during the summer and it was really nice. The distances aren't good enough though. Oly and sprint. http://baltimoretriathlon.org/ Now to scramble and get a half in somewhere. What are our options in the next few weeks? |

I'm just mapping out some distances from my local pool to hopefully have T2 and finish at my house. I'd like to do an OWS for it, but it's not prudent to do that during a tropical storm without kayaks and lifeguards. My wife will do race support which will involve counting laps at the pool. I can ride the full 56 unsupported, and she'll probably drive ahead of me every few miles on the run and be a mobile aid station. If anyone was looking to come in around 5:30 - 6:00 hours finish time, I'm sure she'd be willing to support two or three people on the "course" A GREAT alternative race which I had originally planned to do for the second time but couldn't due to a wedding (Patriots was my alternative) is Savageman on 9/21... though if you haven't been training for hills that might not be a great idea at this point. |
