Subject: RE: Raw eggs - sunnyside up?I'm not an expert on sunny-side-up eggs, but I believe that the yolk is still raw. Warm, but raw, so any bacteria in it would not be killed. There is a small (very small ) risk of an egg being contaminated with salmonella, but I think the incidence is something like 0.003%.
I have no qualms about eating raw eggs--I eat cookie dough all the time, and I've eaten several things at restaurants that had barely warm, certainly raw egg in them--but I realize that deciding to take a certain risk for oneself is very different from deciding to take that risk for one's young child.
If you're concerned about the risk of salmonella, but still want to give your son sunny-side-up eggs, I believe that pasteurized eggs are available. |
