docswim24 - 2008-08-22 9:11 AM My fastest yard time in college was 21.9 for the 50 and 46.9 for the 100.

Damn dude, I knew you were fast ..... but what is the OQ time??? Did you ever think about trying for them back in the day??

They don't usually do olympic times in yards, but if they did it would probably be 44.0 or 43 high, seeing as how just to qualify for the NCAA B time is 44.48 and the NCAA A time is 43.19.

In high school I used to do the 50 in 22.9 and the 100 in 49.0. Now I can do the 50 in 24 high and the 100 in 56 high.

Exactly. I was still a few seconds off OQ. Besides backstroke and the 200 free were my specialities.

We do actually have 2 girls on BT who were superstar swimmers back in the day. Z swam for Russia in the Olympics I believe and vApoLY04 was good enough to qualify as a distance swimmer for just about any other country besides the US. They both were much better than I was.

Wow.  I haven't gone off a starting block in about 20 years, and haven't timed a 50 yd or 100 yd for the sake of going all out since around the same time.  Based on my set times in recent months, I'd have to guess that I would be hard pressed to break 30 sec for a 50 and 1:10 for a 100 in a 25 yd pool.  That's a far cry from back in the day when my 50 was in the mid-20's, and 100 in the upper 50's.

In high school a good friend of mine was swimming sub-50 sec 100's and went to nationals for the YMCA, and a girl from my school made it to the Olympic trials.  It's amazing to swim with someone that fast.  It's just crazy to see up close!

x2  Because of this thread, I timed myself tonight and after my warm up 200 I went all-out for 50 and did it in 31 seconds.  After 950 yards, did it again and came in at 42 seconds.  Not too shabby for my 5th or 6th time in the pool in the last 20 years.  Some people can run or bike naturally but I'm more natural in the water.  Running?  Not so much.

One workout a few weeks ago I did 100yd repeats and had a few under the 1:20 mark, no clue what my 50 time would be. Now you have me curious! Wish I had a 50m pool to train in [less turning] but what're ya gonna do

Cesar Cielo the 50 Gold medalist swam a 40.92 from a regular start not a relay start

I did this about a month ago when I first started training just to see what I could do. So I had the wife time me with a stop watch one day at the pool. its a 25m so I onlt did a 50m down and back. I still don't know how to flip turn nor did I dive in. I just pushed off the wall and swam all out.
38 sec. for the 50m
so I'd say about average. (average for us normal folk)

I went 27.1 for a 50 yd Free at a Master's meet a few months back.  25 years ago I did it in 23.0.  It's humbling to see how fast they swim at the Olympics!

I can do 40 seconds on the 50. I do a regular workout where I do several 50's trying to keep my time under 50, with just 10 or 15 seconds rest in between. The first couple are a breeze, but by the end I'm swimming 48's and 49's.

Room to improve, but I've improved greatly over the past two years.

I'm between 44 and 46 seconds for 50 meters all out.  But I feel like I'm going fast!

(I guess compared to the old ladies floating down the lanes on kick boards, I am fast!)

I did a 54.3 (25 yard pool,100 yard swim off blocks) in high school. Once. I averaged ~58 seconds on most days. But that was when Deep Purple was still a thing.

Resurrected an oldie here ! If your 100 goal time is :50 you'll need to set the 50 time a little lower.
