Manitowoc - Two Rivers YMCA
78F / 26C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 15m 1s
Overall Rank = 16/214
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/16
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early - pickle juice and poptart and ride to Manti.

Nothing Special - just wanted to go under 1:20 with 1:17 as A goal

Took TORCH pre burn 20 min prior and gell 60 and 15 min prior. Should have tossed in Endurolytes too
Event warmup:

Swam for ~100 just to loosen the arms.

Right to the line
Swim
  • 05m 46s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went well - i started out strong, but lack of swim focus affected final. Could have gone faster, but did not have the pull. I stayed close to the noodle line and never was passed but did catch a few 1st wave. Could have swam in farther but goggles were fogged and was difficult to see, thank goodness for the noodles for seeing
What would you do differently?:

focus on swim a bit more
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

T1 was slow for me, I just did not get out in a hurry, i wasted about 20 secs here. I got off the suit real well, but felt putzy on dressing and getting out. Not awful, but definitely could have been better
What would you do differently?:

T1 time was comb'd with Bike so i took my Garmin time and distance and subtracted from the bike total - the clocked distance was a bit faster
Bike
  • 42m 6s
  • 16.52 miles
  • 23.54 mile/hr
Comments:

Nnice ride - I got out quickly and into the shoes well. no problem. I just took off right away. I think the wind was behind me to start. I kept 24 mph to the half way mark. I do not think I kept it as well coming back but that was into the wind a bit more - I definitely pushed it more on the way back. I was passed only 1x with 2 mile to go and reeled him in with .5 to go. i slipped out the shoes and into T2 we go
What would you do differently?:

Maybe pace it out better and save a lil more for 2nd half of bike, or maybe not do a 92 mile bike race SIX days ago. Still a great effort - especially with FP80 first race
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Felt quicker - But I was out fairly well
What would you do differently?:

Not much to complain about here.
Run
  • 23m 57s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

i ran what my body gave me. It was hard to get going, I really had the HR moving. i also had a chest tightness/ache at 0.5 mile. I shook it a bit by half way and then moved it home. My splits were

8:02
8:02 (consistent huh?)
7:19
6:06 (last 0.1)

As you can see I gave it at the end. i think I scared a few kids with my grunting and frothing at the mouth.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder?!?!?!

That hurt enuff.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and got my recovery Torch ready

What limited your ability to perform faster:

6days post 92.5 mile bike race

Event comments:

I rate this a 3.8 almost 4 - It was a great race, but in comparison to IM races it is no contest, but definitely for a lil race it does get an A. I will return for this race in the future, but not next year because of plans for IMWI 2009

Lots of fun and recomment it highly

Hey, speedy. 1:19/100, 23.5, 7:44. Damn.

Say, you didn't have a stroke while filling out the race report, did you? What the heck is a

"sperwmatid shape" bike course? Or maybe I'm having a stroke...

Nice race!
