Total Time = 3h 44m 39s
Overall Rank = 191/229

Age Group Rank = 12/13
Pre-race routine:

This was my first ever Olympic distance triathlon/

Up at 4:45 and had Bagel and PB before leaving the house.Picked up Robert and Sue at 5:30 and on the road by 5:40. Got to the venue before 7am so lots of time to get bib, marked and T-shirt etc.
Event warmup:

Milled around the TA and then wandered to the beach and swam out for a couple of minutes to acclimatise. Water was pretty warm considering it was Lake Ontario and beach was really nice, with really nice sand.
Swim
  • 51m 20s
  • 1500 meters
  • 03m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Very choppy, did mostly breast stroke. Right calf cramped just after the first turn. Went on back to stretch it out, then 5 minutes later the left calf cramped. This continued to alternate a couple of more times. Thankfully they both didn't go at the same time otherwise I may not have been able to finish the swim
What would you do differently?:

Figure out why the cramping is occuring.
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

Slow due to getting some water before the cycle and also spent a bit of time getting the gloves on.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time practicing the gloves on and off
Bike
  • 1h 39m 29s
  • 40 kms
  • 24.12 km/hr
Comments:

Ok bike, challenging hills, but overall felt pretty good. Training hills have been more challenging.
What would you do differently?:

Knowing the course, I could probably do better.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Was ok transition.
What would you do differently?:

More practice
Run
  • 1h 08m 28s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 51s  min/km
Comments:

Tought start to the run, but then got into a rythm. Lots of water stations, managed to keep well hydrated.
What would you do differently?:

Run more bricks
Post race
Warm down:

A little light stretching, had a hamburger and then wandered and chatted with people.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rough swim, and challenging hills. Run could also have been better. Knowing the course would also have helped.

Event comments:

Good race, and really nice venue.
