Tri Peachtree City
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 50m 40s
Overall Rank = 849/928
Age Group = 35-39 Females
Age Group Rank = 56/62
Pre-race routine:

Got up around 4:30... drank coffee and ate oatmeal. Just took my time getting ready to leave. Grabbed a raincoat just in case.
Event warmup:

Arrived in plenty of time to get marked, set up, visit the porta-potty in the complete dark (hmmmmmm), walked the transitions a couple times as the transition area was a bit overwhelming and I had a hard time finding some good spotting items (trees, etc.), went to the potty again, visited with some family and friends in the race, potty again, checked water temp, rinsed goggles, ready to go!
Swim
  • 16m 4s
  • 528 yards
  • 03m 02s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Lots more training both in the pool and in open water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Getting shoes on without socks was a little tough, but better than putting socks on first (I think).
What would you do differently?:

Practice more... lots of room for improvement here.
Bike
  • 53m 8s
  • 13 miles
  • 14.68 mile/hr
Comments:

I worked on hydration early and ate (?) a GU about half way through... Espresso with 2X caffine... yummy! We had some rain... mostly a drizzle, but given the fact that I though it might downpour, this was great.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on hills, work on gear shifting and cadence.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Had a hard time balancing to get my first foot out of the bike show and into the running show. Otherwise, felt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Due to the cloudy day, I should have left my shades :) More practice!
Run
  • 37m 16s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Water stations at three points on the course. I felt really strong for some reason. This was a really good run for me!
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for my mom to finish... only a few minutes behind me. Found the rest of my family and friends. Drank water and socialized, went to clear my stuff out of transition, returned to finish to wait for another friend to finish, got something to eat and some Starbucks coffee!!! Hung around for the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and nerves

Event comments:

This is a great race and very well run! Volunteers and participants are all very friendly.

Given where I am with training (and lack of this year), I felt really good about my results, but know I have lots of room for improvement next year.

Mom mom placed 3rd in her AG. GO MOM!! Honorable mention... my brother placed 4th in his very tough AG (missed 3rd by 20 seconds).

Course: Seemed longer than I remember. I had a hard time staying calm, but I forced myself to relax mostly by doing breast stroke the entire way. When I started to freestyle, I could feel my breathing and stress increase. I knew that keeping my heart rate in check would be key to a more effective T1 and bikee. I also forced myself to pee before I got out. Hate it for those who were behind me... oh well, what can you do? :) Sea grass/weeds was really bad toward the end of the swim. Yuck!

Course: Great course with nice hills but none too crazy. From practicing twice, I knew the first few hills would be tough until I got my legs under me. Volunteers were great at directing us. I only saw two cars on the course. One was being escorted by a police car. The other, I'm not sure why they were there, but I almost had to stop for him/her to turn right into the subdivision. What gives???

If you can leave a race feeling good about your results then the race was a good one.
Plus, it's really great that you feel like there is room for improvement to get back at the course next year.
