Swim
Comments: This was my first tri and I have only swum in a lake once before and only once in a wetsuit. As a result I stayed to the back and outside at the start. Found that I never settled into a good rhythm, form wen out of the window and I was breathing to the left almost exclusively, which I don't do in training. Was actually quite pleased with time as was never out of breath and effort level was not that great. Very pleased just to get to the end of my first competitive swim. What would you do differently?: Relax more. Try and draft. Improve my approach to regular sighting. Transition 1
Comments: A bit slow, but not a disaster given my limited experience with the wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Try and have my shoes clipped Bike
Comments: Ride felt good. Blew up a little on one climb which was annoying, but got my legs back after a couple of minutes. Hit 45mph on descents which is 10mph faster than I've ever been on the bike. Overall felt that I couldn't have put much more effort into the ride. What would you do differently?: Drink a little more. Take a gel in preparation for the run (unfortunately I was so late into transition setup that I forgot to take a gel on the bike). Transition 2
Comments: Dismounted bike carefully as had lost one of the grips on my cleats. Plus this was my first tri and had already watched someone fall over at T1. What would you do differently?: Arrive earlier to get a better rack position Run
Comments: My calf injury gave me grief all the way round, particularly the first two miles when I was limping badly. Good to see that I can HTFU and push through it. Final mile was the fastest which I was very pleased with. What would you do differently?: Not injure my leg before race! I think I need to more confidence to push harder on the run as I felt like I had a gas in the tank at the finish. Post race
Warm down: Water, banana, bought a cap. What limited your ability to perform faster: Calf injury and bad swimming form where the main limiters. Last updated: 2008-04-03 12:00 AM

Got up 5am, set off with plenty of time but had not read the instructions that event was at Camp Buckner rather than main West Point site. As a result was very late. Note to self, read the instructions!
Had hurt my left calf muscle on my "gentle" brick on Saturday so ran a little to see if I could, it hurt but but was better than twelve hours previously. Had a quick swim just before start,
