Pre-race routine:

Got to the race site at about 5:45, just unloaded the car and headed down to transition. Of course I was "late" since it seems some people must have shown up at 3:00 to get the transition spots they did, but I found a spot in the middle of the chaos and then spent some time talking with friends and about 30 minutes waiting in line for the restrooms.

There was some good chop out there due to the wind, it was noticeable. They had us start in heats according to age group, so I started in the second heat, 5 minutes back of the first heat. Well, this is ok, but if you are a faster swimmer you are guaranteed to catch some of the slower swimmers in the first heat. So I had quite a time navigating around the slower swimmers from the first heat.
What would you do differently?:

Not much to do differently, swim faster I guess.

I probably would have got 2nd place overall if I had decent transitions. I thought I was doing good till I saw the official results with transition times. If I would of had the same transition times as the guy who got second, I would have beat him by xx:xx:01
What would you do differently?:

Just get the routine down a little quicker, I have improved but there is about 20 seconds that I could be faster.

Run is my week point and that shows from the results. I am getting better and I was able to hold off most everyone, since coming off the bike I was in first, but two guys "caught" me. They didn't really catch me because they started 2 heats back (10 minutes), but their final finish time was quicker than mine.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do, I pushed it throughout. .

Warm down:

Did a 5 mile run with a friend.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions and Run. I need to work on both, more on the run though. For this distance of race, I need to be down around 6:10 minute miles or so.

Course: One loop course. 2 big hills, couple of small rollers, rest of it was flat. Good headwind out of the north, which made coming home fun. Ok, if I may. The long course folks did the loop twice and their bike distance is 25.5 miles. We did it once and our distance is 11.75. Had does that compute? I think we actually did 12.4 miles or so.

Great race - Wingsfan and I stuck around for the awards (not that I was in any danger of getting one....hehe).  Congrats!

Smokin' race, congrats!!

For what it's worth, my Garmin said the short course was 11.96 (which includes the extra hundred yards or so from the timing mat to my slot at the far end of the transition area, forgot hit the button going into T2). 

Since the long course turns around back out on Raytown road, I'm betting they did less than the advertised distance.
