I will be at the swim and Ally just told me about the ride, so you can be somewhere between Dan and Ally or Ally and myself

Details? Is it open to non-racers?

On Sunday, August 31st, the Reston Triathlon Association will hold the fourth annual swim clinic at the Lake Audubon boat ramp. For those new to the Reston Triathlon, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience a lake swim so that you know what to expect when you do the race on September 7th. Registration will open at 6:30 a.m. The clinic will begin promptly at 7:45 a.m. with instructions by the members of the Reston Master's Swim team. The swimming will commence at 8:00 a.m. and due to the number of swimmers we anticipate there will be waves of swimmers heading out at one time. We encourage you to register early as the lines can get very long. There is no online registration.
We will permit swimmers the opportunity to complete a full mile in the open water (two loops around a 1/2 mile marked out and back course) as long as you are out of the water one hour after the start of your wave. Absolutely no one will be permitted to remain in the lake after 9:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be provided after the training swim. Wet suits are allowed.

The cost for the clinic and refreshments is $15.00. We hope to see you there.

The Directors,
Reston Triathlon

I will be there as well.  Has anyone noticed the construction going on near the run trail/stream?  If we are to use the tunnels to cross the streets (Near Soapstone), they will have to open up the bridge to cross over the stream.

I would love to run hurdles for this race - it would certainly make it more challenging then those "easy" rolling hills and especially that last "blessed" hill at the end that Reston offers.

Why do they always put a hill at the END of a race?!?! The tail ends of both the Reston Sprint and the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler were uphill. Wtf?

If I am not mistaken, I believe there will be volunteers with ropes and climbing gear for runners during the last leg up on the trail as it turns into South Lakes High School.

I know how not to get lost on them. - I follow Burger King's aroma at Hunter's woods Shopping Center and run past it for a mile.

Many people have had a hard time finding and running the Reston Oly course.  Don't bother looking at the map on the Reston Oly web site, it is horrible.

Zoya and I plan on running this SLOWLY on Wednesday if you want to join us you can, if you can't; well here is some help figuring it out.

Thankfully the course is now marked in red/orange arrows, mostly bi-directional arrows, and one or two single direction arrows at MOST intersections.

Here are two fairly accurate maps I created:

#1.  The first half of the race:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=65868

#2.  The last segment that varies from the first half: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=65870

Description & Directions:

Start in the parking lot between South Lakes High School & Langston Hughes Middle School.  Get on the trail between the football field & the baseball field and run west (away from the schools).

Once you get to the end of the football field you'll be running down hill, stay to the right.  You will run up a steep hill, at the top turn left and run toward the playground.  As soon as you pass the fence to the playground turn left.  Run to the bottom of the hill, stay left (Don't go under the underpass).  Go over the foot bridge, stay to the right (from this point on you'll be running on the same trail that you run back on) after the right turn you'll go under South Lakes Drive.  You will make a right turn, then I know there are a few trails that go to the right, just stay straight.

You'll run up a short/steep hill right behind a building, and you'll go left, then run for about 50 meters and make a right to go under Soapstone.

About 300 meters down, you make a right and run over a foot bridge (this area is currently under construction, the orange fences may be up, they were knocked down this AM, but when they do construction during the week they may go back up) after you cross the bridge make a left.

For the next mile you should have the creek on your left side.  Eventually you go over another footbridge, make an immediate left, and over another footbridge and make an immediate right (all in about 50 meters).

Run under Colts Neck Rd (just stay straight, there are some confusing paths here) then under Reston Parkway.  Here it seems to get confusing, just look for the path that seems to be going straight, and is the most major path (not narrow).  Eventually you approach the South Gate community center, you run right in front of it then make a right turn after you pass it, run down the hill.  You also pass under another road, I think it was right after the community center, but it may be before.  From this point on, just keep looking for a turnaround marker on the path.

One note of caution:  From the near drought we had in August a lot of leaves are down and some of the arrows are covered and difficult to see.

Great maps - they should use them on the Reston Site.
